Macau SAR Hotel Travel Guide\n

A Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China, Macau is known as a gambling paradise. The large presence of casinos and resorts attest to that, but the city offers so much more. A former Portuguese colony, Macau boasts an exciting mix of Eastern and Western influences, and is the kind of diverse place where you can enjoy Portuguese cuisine, visit Buddhist temples, check out skyscrapers, learn Cantonese, and much more. Now, that sounds like a good time!

Visiting Macau

From the glistening Macau resorts, to the laid-back residential streets, you'll find excitement and culture everywhere in this densely populated region. As you figure out your itinerary, know it's easiest to divide the town into four sections: the Macau Peninsula, Taipa, Cotai, and Coloane. The Macau Peninsula is the northernmost and most populous district, and it's here that you'll find noteworthy religious buildings like the Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral - which is regarded as the East's most significant Christian sit - and the A-Ma Temple - a Taoist temple that pre-dates the Portuguese era. Other notable attractions include Senate Square - Macau's favorite gathering place - and Mount Fortress - a former defense structure. Taipa, which is an island just south of Macau Peninsula, is largely known as a residential district, but does offer gambling and good hiking and cycling in the Taipa Hills. Just south of Taipa is Cotai, a strip of land known for having some of the newest and most lavish casinos and hotels in Macau. The southernmost island and district, Coloane, is quite easygoing. Take a walk through Coloane Village, being sure to take in the pastel-colored homes and explore neat shops; the beaches here are certainly worth a visit too if you need to chill out and let views of the sea take you away.
