"Ode to Rob"
Overall, wonderful location and very clean hotel. We ended staying for two extra nights and ended booking a different room for each. Rob, among many others, was extremely helpful and invaluable in convincing us to extend our trip in SD and specifically in Porta Vista. Going directly through the hotel you can get a free bfast and free valet parking. Rooms were decently spacious and each has its own charm. You're with in a mile of all the exciting things on the shore and it seems to be a safe neighbourhood to walk around in at night. Another bonus - if you drive around enough, you can find free parking esp on evenings and weekends. Down side...valet attendants is a hit or miss. Some are nice enough, others...are a work in process. Don't let them impact your experience of the location. Front desk staff are wonderful. Housekeeping is extremely nice. This hotel is right on the harbor and walking distance from the Star of India and the Midway. It was less money than other downtown hotels. The restaurant is apparently being redone, so the only place to eat in the hotel was a cafe. They did have room service, which we did not use. We did get dessert at the cafe and enjoyed it. The room was clean and comfortable. Our keys turned off before we checked out, so when we got back after walking to a nearby restaurant for breakfast, we could not get into our room. There was a hotel staff member nearby who was very helpful. she did not want to just let us into the room (good for security) so she tried calling the front desk to get confirmation. It took a long time before we were let into the room. We we checked out a little while later, we let the front desk know. It was actually a pretty big inconvenience, if we had had a plane to catch, the amount of time it took to get back in the room could have been disastrous. It would have been nice if the front desk offered some compensation. I mentioned that, and he apologized again, but did not offer anything.

"Hotel is two months old and has been well designed"
Experience was good though time in the hotel was limited. Disappointed when they wanted to charge $17.00 for parking when the hotel was nearly empty and parking spaces were plentiful. The staff was cordial, saw my disappointment and waived the parking fee.

The front desk was helpful to when we needed more towels and a small fridge. I've never experienced going to the 12th floor just to get to the lobby and then another elevator to get to the rooms. It was really weird.

"Nice hotel"
I was shocked when I pulled up to the hotel. I read some of the reviews and most of them were negative. My experience was positive. It was clean, nice looking, and great staff. I will definitely stay there again. Plus it was remodeled nicely. Sometimes you can't always go by what you read or hear. Sometimes you just have to give it a try.

"Close to Qualcomm Stadium"
Great location if attending an event at Qualcomm Stadium! Hotel staff were very nice and free covered parking was available. Hotel is currently changing names and areas are under construction. Nothing fancy for a room, but was clean. I received my request to have a quiet room away from the elevators. Our room needed upgrading in the bathroom as the shower was dripping (couldn't stop even with tight turn of water lever.) Tried calling front desk to notify them, as we are still in a drought, but no answer. Also, shower VERY slow to drain so water pooling in tub. This is room #233 so maybe if you are reading this the problem can be addressed. Hotel worked out fine overall as we (myself and 2 children) just needed a place to sleep after an event at Qualcomm. It was good for that purpose, but would like something more updated if vacationing.
