"Hotel Falier, Venezia, Italy"
The Hotel Falier is a very nice small hotel in Venezia, Italy. The hotel is roughly a 15 minute walk from the train station and maybe 20 minutes walk from Tronchetto parking. I parked at Tronchetto and walked and it was no problem. The hotel is in the "no cars" area of the city on a moderately well traveled street. There is easy access to the entire city. Certainly there are hotels closer to Rialto and San Marco, but these options are farther from where you have to start carrying luggage by hand. The hotel is very nicely decorated, the staff is quite friendly, check-in is quick and easy, and check out is painless. Breakfast is included and is served in a stylish but small dining area. Breakfast is rolls yogurt, cappuccino, espresso, or tea, very typically for Italy in my experience. The room I stayed in is quite small and had two twin beds side by side. The mattress and pillows were both firm. Internet is included and I actually spent several hours getting some work done in the room with no problems at all.

"A Pleasant Surprise"
When we first checked into this boutique hotel, we were somewhat disappointed and a bit reluctant. Having just arrived from our upscale accommodations in Rome, Florence & Tuscany and not yet having become acclimated to this most unusual city we were taken aback when the desk clerk said he would help us carry our bags up two flights of stairs to our room. The centuries old, plaster, rock & brick walls had character but it all seemed so, so unimpressive. The wooden banister on each partial flight was sturdy and the last finial was not secured and rotated as I held on and made my final turn with one of luggage in the other hand and two small bags on my shoulder. The room was small and as I let the suitcase slip out of my hand, I looked at my wife and thought, “This is a mistake.” But she was okay. After a day or so, I realized that we were very well located, no more than 150 feet from the Vaporetto (water bus) stop, which made it very accessible. There was a very nice restaurant across the “street” with a hand-written menu and a lot of charm. We easily walked to piazzas no more than a few blocks in either direction; one, only steps away had the necessary tobacconist, all the gelatto you could ever ask for and a lovely restaurant with wonderful service and outstanding Zuppa di Pesce which was not even one of their signature dishes. In the other direction and a few more turns away, Giacomo dell’Orio was much larger and even had a supermarket. Al Ponte Mocenigo did not end up being a disappointment at all. Instead it was an unexpected treat and a wonderful place to stay.
