Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Description

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is a 33-acre wildlife reserve and African-style hotel located near Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park and approximately 25 miles from Orlando International Airport. Local attractions include Disney's Magic Kingdom® Park and Disney-MGM Studios.

The perfect resort for animal lovers, guests at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge can watch antelope, giraffes, exotic birds, and other creatures from most balcony rooms, restaurants, the pool, and other public areas. Guests may partake in several animal programs, including cultural safaris, watching the animals at dusk with night vision technology, junior researcher programs, and watching animal handlers feed pelicans and flamingos. The zero-entry outdoor swimming pool features a 67-foot waterslide, and the pool area also contains a children's pool and two whirlpools. After a long, hard safari, guests can unwind at the Zahanati Massage & Fitness Center, featuring massages, beauty treatments, exercise equipment, personal trainers, and saunas. Parents who would like a night to themselves may drop the kids off at Simba's Clubhouse, where children can be entertained by games and Disney movies in a supervised environment. Kids will also enjoy the 24-hour Hakuna Matata Playground, overlooking the flamingo area and the savanna. Additional amenities include a family style dining restaurant, a fine dining restaurant, Pumbaa's Fun & Games Arcade, babysitting services, valet and self parking, laundry facilities, and laundry services.

With Extra Magic Hours, guests staying at a Walt Disney World® Resort have even more chances to experience the magic. Each day one of the Disney Theme Parks opens an hour early or stays open up to three hours after regular Park closing, so guests can enjoy easy access to select attractions - even the most popular ones!

We had a wonderful time at the animal kingdom. We were told by friends to get the Savannah View room and while we rarely saw animals, it was still a lovely room with a great view of "African" terrain. The pool and gameroom were great. I also loved the lobby and wonderful views. The service at Animal Kingdom is also top notch. I will definitely stay there again and again!

Dirty room, poor customer service. Overpriced for the value. We enjoy Disney and have stayed at the Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk and Grand Floridian during prior visits. From an accommodations and service standpoint, all of those hotel experiences were markably better than the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We have a 7-year-old who absolutely loves the Disney experience so we will return -- but won't stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge again.

Stayed here for a week with my husband, 2 yr old daughter and best freind. Room was smaller than expected however- level of service is fabulous! Spend the extra $$ and go for the Kilimanjaro Club level service- you will be soooooo satisfied. Easy to get to parks, transportation fabulous- overall great. I did however get tired of "american" fare, being from U.S. not a lot of choices food wise, if you are an adventurous eater- you'll love Boma buffet- my husband did- kid friendly food options- lots of fresh fruit, veggies, and typical "fast food"- GREAT HOTEL!

Waited over 30 minutes to check in. We were disappointed by small dark room. Paid extra for a Savannah view, but were put on the "Sunset Savannah" side where the animals rarely go. Pool was fantastic though. Bus system works very well.

I have taken my two boys, now ages 7 and 10 to AKL twice, the first time in 2004. I couldn't bring myself after that first visit to stay anywhere else. The Lodge is beautiful and relaxing...perfect after a long day at the parks. The layout is nice and the pool and food are fantastic. I absolutley love the lobby. It's just GORGEOUS! My only beef is the travel time to any park but Animal Kingdom...at least 35 mintues to Magic Kingdom. Other than that it is the perfect place to stay and be transproted to Disney perfection!

This hotel out ranks all other hotels that we have stayed at on the Disney property. If you are looking for a place with less noise - this is the place for you. The hotel is beautiful, service is excellent, ground and rooms are clean and the Savannah views are fantastic. After a day in the parks, my husband and I relaxed on our balcony and watched the animals. This is entertainment in itself. There was very little outside noise. This is the place to go for privacy and relaxation and to get lost in nature.

We went as a family with our three small children. While we had a lot of fun and there were a bunch of great activities to do (many of them for a fee, of course), most activities were geared for school-aged children. The lodge itself was beautiful, but if you are going to experience sunny, bright FL, you may get depressed by the darker decor of the lodge. Very friendly staff. Fun to see the animals. Great pool with free lifejackets for our non-swimming kids. One other comment is that AKL is pretty far away from other attractions, so expect to be on the bus for a long time to get anywhere.

Just got back from Disney World. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. A great hotel with African theme everywhere you turn. The rooms are very warm and inviting. Kids loved the pool. A pair of ducks even dove in for a short swim! After a busy day at the parks, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is nice to stay in because it's a very calm and relaxing hotel - slow paced. Can't beat the Disney transportation system. Don't rent a car, you won't need one. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel and would go again in a heart beat!

My family spent a fun week at the AKL. The rooms are a little small for the price but provide breathtaking views of the animals. Service was excellent across the board (check-in, housekeeping, restaurants, and shops). We received an anniversary card signed by a dozen different staff members. Housekeeping left towels shaped as little animals each night for our infant son. Wow! The current construction efforts were sometimes annoying. The lobby was noisy for brief periods during the day due to drilling and hammering, but we couldn't hear it in our room.
