Information About Taxes, Governmental Fees, Tax Recovery Charges and Service Fees

Please review the following information carefully from time to time as it is subject to change.

Introductory Note:

The information below is intended to explain what taxes and fees apply when you book your travel arrangements with us. We work hard to keep it simple and to try to minimize the lawyer speak. For example, when we list an amount as "taxes," on the site, that sometimes means (as described below) a "tax recovery charge." What is a "tax recovery charge?" Well, it is our travel suppliers, and not us, that have the obligation to collect any applicable taxes, governmental fees and other charges and remit them to the government. Therefore, what we're collecting from you is a "tax recovery charge" that is equal to the amount we expect our travel suppliers to bill us so they can pay those taxes, governmental fees and other charges to the government. What does all this mean to you, as our customer? Probably not much. Just keep in mind that when you see the word "taxes" below or elsewhere on our site, it may mean "tax recovery charge."

Air Transactions.

Taxes and Governmental Fees. Most of the prices displayed for air fare on our site already include all applicable taxes and fees to be collected by the airline and remitted to the government. In other cases, sample prices are displayed where it may not yet be possible to calculate all such taxes and fees; for example, if we don't yet know your departure city or the number of flight segments in your itinerary. When that is the case, after the displayed price you will see a plus sign (+) (such as "Miami from $155+") to let you know that the following additional charges may apply: (i) Airport Passenger Facility Charges of up to US$18, depending on itinerary; (ii) Federal Segment Fees of US$3.70 per segment (defined as a takeoff and a landing); (iii) the September 11th Security Fee of US$2.50 per segment (maximum charge per trip of US$5 one-way, US$10 round-trip); (iv) a Travel Facilities Tax of US$8.10 per direction for domestic flights beginning or ending in Alaska or Hawaii; and (v) for international itineraries, foreign and U.S. government-imposed charges of up to US$200 per round trip, depending on routing and destination. By the time you get to the check-out page, all of these amounts will have been calculated for you, so you'll always know the total price of your ticket(s) before you make the decision to book.

In a limited number of stand-alone air transactions, we serve as the merchant of record for credit card and payment purposes. In these situations, amounts displayed in the "Taxes and Fees" line consist of the amount that we expect the relevant airline to bill us for any applicable taxes, governmental fees and other charges that such airline must remit to the government, plus an additional Processing Service Fee that we retain as described below.

Of course, all air fares may be subject to additional restrictions, may not be available on all flights, and may change without notice. Specific fare rules are provided prior to purchase.

Hotel Transactions.

We market hotel rooms on the site under two different business models, depending on the preferences of our hotel suppliers. The first is the traditional or "postpaid" model, where you book a room through us at published rates and you pay for that room, plus any applicable taxes, governmental fees and other charges directly to the hotel at check-out.

The second business model is the "prepaid" model (also known as the "net rate" or "merchant" model), where we collect the full amount from you up front and handle the payments to the hotel ourselves. We label the "prepaid" model rooms as "GoodBuy" rooms on our site because they are covered by our Low Rate Guarantee. Amounts displayed in the "Taxes and Fees" line for GoodBuy hotel transactions consist of the amount that we expect the relevant hotel to bill us for any applicable taxes, governmental fees and other charges, plus an additional Processing Service Fee that we retain as described below.

Car Transactions.

Amounts displayed in the "Taxes & Fees" line for TotalPrice car rentals represent the amount of taxes, governmental fees and other charges payable by you directly to the car rental agency when you return your rental car. In the case of car suppliers that do not provide TotalPrice information, these taxes, governmental fees and other charges will be calculated and displayed to you prior to check-out.

Cruise Transactions.

Amounts displayed in the "Taxes and Fees" line for cruise bookings represent the amount of taxes, fees and other charges payable by you to the cruise line when you book your cruise with us. A Processing Service Fee may be charged to compensate for processing your travel reservation through our system.

Travel Packages.

Unless otherwise noted, prices shown for travel packages are in USD for one adult, and if the travel package includes a hotel, based upon double occupancy. Prices are subject to change based upon your choice of travel dates, number of travelers, departure city, and your choice of flight, hotels or other items, and may require a minimum nights' stay. Amounts listed in the "Taxes and Fees" line consist of the amount that we expect the relevant suppliers to bill us for any applicable taxes, governmental fees and other charges, plus an additional Processing Service Fee that we retain as described below.

Additional Information.

Information regarding taxes, governmental fees and other charges on any travel-related transactions not discussed above will be calculated and displayed to you prior to check-out. Also, remember that you may incur other charges while traveling that are not payable to us and are not included in the quoted price, such as hotel extra-person or extra-bed charges, resort fees, gratuities, hotel energy surcharges, parking fees, telephone fees, room service, movies, mini-bar, or rental car insurance, gasoline, and other incidentals.

Service Fees:

We impose certain service fees as outlined below.

Facilitation Fee.

We act as an intermediary between travel suppliers and consumers for the booking of and payment for travel accommodations. To facilitate the provision of travel accommodations to consumers, we enter into agreements with various travel suppliers which govern the booking of and payment for such accommodations through this web site. The price listed for travel accommodations includes the amount(s) paid to the relevant travel supplier(s) in connection with facilitating your travel arrangements, as well as a fee for facilitating such travel arrangements, which we retain.

Online Air Transaction Service Fee.

A non-refundable fee of $5.00 to $15.00 may be charged for each air transaction. The fee varies based on airfare, carrier, destination, and other factors. To the extent any online air transaction service fee applies, it will be included in the airfare and itemized prior to purchase. The current maximum number of tickets per transaction is six. Purchasing more than six tickets begins a new transaction with its own online air transaction service fees. This online air transaction service fee applies to both e-tickets and paper tickets. There is no online air transaction service fee on air transactions that are a part of a travel package.

Offline Air Transaction Service Fee.

In addition to the Online Air Transaction Service Fee, a non-refundable fee of US$25 per passenger (up to 3 passengers) is charged for airline tickets booked by telephone via our toll-free number. Reservations for departure in 24 hours or fewer cannot be booked by telephone.

Processing Service Fee.

Certain service fees are charged for processing your travel reservation through our system. These are often bundled into the Taxes and Fees amount in order to maintain the opaque nature of the "prepaid" rate, as required by our contracts with our suppliers.

Paper Ticket Shipping Fees.

Most air transactions can be fulfilled using e-tickets. However, if an airline does not offer e-ticketing, or if you request paper tickets, there will be a shipping fee assessed of US$29.95 per transaction for second business day delivery; US$39.95 per transaction for next business day delivery; or US$49.95 per transaction for international delivery. Airlines may assess additional charges for issuance of paper tickets and additional charges may apply to Sabre Agency Ticketing. We will bill any such paper ticket fees to the credit card or debit card provided in the booking process.

Fees for Changes/Cancellations/Refunds.

If you change your reservation, airlines may charge a fee to use your ticket as credit for a new reservation. This fee varies by airline, market, and specific fare rules, and may be $150 or more for domestic tickets and $200 or more for international tickets. If you cancel your reservation, airlines usually deduct $150 or more for domestic tickets and $200 or more for international tickets before determining the amount that can be applied towards future travel.

YOUR TOTAL PRICE FOR ANY TRANSACTION, INCLUDING ALL AMOUNTS PAYABLE TO US, WILL ALWAYS BE DISPLAYED TO YOU PRIOR TO PURCHASE.
