Travel Advisory Action:
The US State Department has issued a travel advisory recommending US citizens traveling to Italy at this time maintain extreme vigilance due to possible terrorist threats to US interests in that country. Due to this recommendation by the US State Department, Alitalia has taken the following action applicable to tickets issued up to and including October 2, 2001, for travel from October 2, 2001 - January 6, 2002:
  • Passengers may postpone their travel up to March 31, 2002 without penalty or may have an MCO (voucher) issued for future travel, which will be valid for one year.
  • Refunds apply only if the fare would otherwise qualify.
  • The above policies apply only to US citizens or legal residents of the USA, regardless of where travel originates.

Confirmed Discontinued Service:

  • Columbus (CMH) - Atlanta (ATL), Effective October 6 - January 4, 2002.

  • Tickets may be reissued for the same routing for up to one year, starting when service resumes.

American Airlines (AA)
Super Bowl date change accommodations
The date of the Super Bowl in New Orleans was changed due to the September 11 terror attacks. For passengers who wish to reschedule their American/American Eagle/TWA flights for the new dates, changes fee will be waived. This will apply only for passengers originally ticketed for the following dates and who wish to reschedule for the new allowed dates. Travel must be to/from New Orleans (MSY), Baton Rouge (BTR), and Lafayette (LFT).

Canada 3000 (2T)
Confirmed Discontinued Service:
We have learned that effective November 09, 2001 Canada 3000 has suspended all flight operations for the foreseeable future. As of now, we have been unable to verify if ticketed passengers will be offered refunds. Please do not send tickets in. Tickets must be retained for proof of purchase if one of the following options is used. We will update you further when more information is available.

Passengers Options:

  • United Airlines (UA) has advised the following:
    For passengers who have already commenced their travel and are now stranded in the middle of their journey, United Airlines is offering 50% off of their lowest available one-way fare.
    For passengers who have not yet commenced travel, UA will waive all advance purchase restrictions on fares, subject to availability and other fare restrictions.
    New reservations must be made directly with UA. Proof of Canada 3000 booking is required, either a printout of an e-ticket receipt or paper tickets. UA can be contacted at 1-800-241-6522.
  • US Airways (US) has advised the following:
    For passengers who have not yet commenced travel, US will waive all advance purchase restrictions on the lowest available fare, subject to availability and other fare restrictions.
    New reservations must be made directly with US. Proof of Canada 3000 booking is required, either a printout of an e-ticket receipt or paper tickets. US can be reached at 1-800-428-4322.
  • Air Canada (AC) has advised the following:
    For passengers who have already commenced their travel and are now stranded in the middle of their journey, AC is offering 50% off of their lowest available one-way fare.

  • For service EUG-SLC, Delta will protect passengers on United Airlines (UA) flights.
  • For BUR service Delta will protect passengers out of LAX or ONT with no service charge.

Confirmed Reroutings: Kennedy Airport, New York (JFK): Delta flights to Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) will be rerouted to depart from Newark Airport (EWR) and connect in Prague, Czech Republic (PRG) effective 28 September through 01 November. Passenger's Options

Lufthansa (LH)
Passenger options in wake of September 11 terrorist attacks.
  • Any passengers who have purchased tickets prior to October 15, 2001 with a planned departure date on or before November 30, 2001 may postpone their flights for up to one year.
  • When the flights are rescheduled, the full value of the unused ticket may be applied to the purchase price of a new ticket, with no change fee or other penalty normally incurred for changes, however a fare difference may apply.

Northwest Airlines (NW)
Northwest Airlines Schedule Change Policy:
For tickets issued on/after 1Nov01 for domestic and Canada routings, a schedule change is defined as 60 minutes or greater. Changes under 60 minutes are no longer considered schedule changes and will not be refunded. Changes under 60 minutes do still qualify for reaccommodation on an alternate schedule.

Qantas Airways (QF)
Confirmed Discontinued Service
Qantas flight 107 and Flight 108 from John F Kennedy (JFK) to Sydney, Australia (SYD) effective October 28-March 30, 2002. Flights will be cancelled on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays.

  • Passengers can be re-accommodated on Qantas Flights 7 and 8 between Sydney, Australia (SYD) and Los Angeles (LAX) and also protected on American Airlines flights between JFK and Los Angeles.

Sabena Airlines (SN)
Confirmed Discontinuation of Service:
We have learned that Sabena Airlines has discontinued all service effective immediately due to financial conditions at the airline. At this time it is unclear when, or if, service will resume. Please continue to check back for updates.

Passenger Options

  • SwissAir (SR) has advised the following: Passengers may exchange their unused Sabena ticket for a SwissAir ticket. A $180.00 service charge each way, $360.00 round-trip, will apply. This exchange must be completed at a SwissAir ticket counter. For questions, SwissAir can be reached at 1-800-221-4750.
  • Lufthansa (LH) has offered to allow the purchase of a Lufthansa ticket with all advance purchase requirements waived. Tickets must be issued by Lufthansa, either through their phone reservations or in person at a Lufthansa ticket counter. Passengers will be required to provide the original Sabena ticket as proof of booking, but the original Sabena tickets should be retained for presentation to Travelocity.com for refund request. Passengers who have taken their outbound Sabena flight, and need only a return ticket may purchase a one-way Lufthansa ticket for 50% off of the lowest available published fare. Again, this must be processed direct with Lufthansa. Lufthansa can be reached at 1-800-645-3880.
  • American Airlines (AA) has advised that they will accept passengers who were ticketed on Sabena using the following procedures
    • Passenger must hold a ticket for confirmed SN flights on the following travel dates:
    • For Outbound travel: 07Nov - 15 Nov 01
    • For Continuing/Return Travel: 07 Nov - 30 Nov 01.
    • Passengers may rebook to American or TWA.
    • Passengers must be rebooked on the same travel date as originally confirmed on SN. Exception: For AA/TW flights that are not available, the passenger may change to the first flight AA/TW flight that has availability. (either earlier or later)

  • US Airways has advised the following as assistance to Sabena Passengers:
    • All ticketed Sabena passengers are eligible for a special offer that gives the lowest available fare with advance purchase restrictions waived.
    • Passengers must make their reservations with, and purchase their tickets directly from US Airways on or before December 3, 2001.
  • Sabena is allowing full refunds with all penalties waived. All tickets MUST be received by Travelocity no later than 16 November 2001 in order for a refund to be processed. Refunds apply to all tickets, including GoodBuy/Netfare tickets.

Scandinavian Airlines (SK)
Passenger options in wake of September 11 terrorist attacks.

  • For travel with a departure date on or before November 30, 2001 passengers may postpone their flights for up to one year from the original ticket issue date without penalty. When the postponed travel is rescheduled the full value of the unused ticket will be applied to the purchase of a new ticket. The difference, if any of the new applicable fare will then be due to Scandinavian Airlines.
  • Refunds will only be allowed on those tickets that are fully-refundable.
SpanAir (JK)
Confirmed Discontinuation of Service
  • SpanAir has advised that Effective November 1, 2001 service between Washington Dulles (IAD) and Madrid (MAD) will be discontinued.
  • Passenger Options
  • For this market, SpanAir is offering re-accommodation onto Lufthansa (LH) or Scandinavian Air System (SK) out of Washington Dulles (IAD).
  • If these options are not acceptable, SpanAir will refund unused tickets.

Spirit Airlines (NK)

  • For Newark (EWR) flights passengers may rebook out of LaGuardia or Atlantic City with no penalties or request a voucher for travel within one year.
  • For O'Hare (ORD)-Myrtle Beach (MYR) flights passengers may request a voucher for travel within one year. No re-accommodations on any other carrier or from any other city apply in this market.
  • For LaGuardia (LGA) - Fort Myers (RSW) flights, passengers may be re-accommodated from LaGuardia - Ft Lauderdale or LaGuardia - Orlando.
  • For both Newark and O'Hare (ORD)-Myrtle Beach (MYR) flights, Spirit will allow name changes with no penalty if passenger wishes to give the ticket to a friend or family member.
  • If these options are not agreeable, Spirit will refund the ticket price.

Sun Country (SY)

Sun Country Suspends Flights to Select Cities:
Effective 30 November, 2001, Sun Country flights to/from JFK/IAD/SFO/LAX/SAN/PHX will be temporarily suspended. Passengers with Sun Country tickets booked to travel between 01 December, 2001 and 03 January, 2002, should contact Sun Country at 800-359-6786 for reaccommodation protection.

Confirmed Resumption of Service:
Swiss Air's website now has updated flight information for today's flights. Updates on Swiss Air's plans for passengers with American Airlines operated flights into Atlanta.

Passengers Options

  • SwissAir will now offer refunds on all flights that have been cancelled. Including reservations that were affected by the grounding on October 3 and 4th 2001.
  • Sabena (SN) is offering to rebook passengers at a deep discount provided the Swiss Air ticket was issued prior to 02 October, 2001. All rebookings must be done by Sabena which can be reached at 800-955-2000
  • For Swiss Air (SR) flights 120/121 with service to Atlanta, the following applies: For those passengers who are holding tickets for SR marketed/American Airlines operated domestic USA flights, American Airlines will only honor tickets issued prior to October 2, 2001 and for flights completed by October 28, 2001.
  • For passengers who still need to be re-protected, please follow these guidelines:
  • Bookings to/from Atlanta: Rebook passengers on first available Sabena (SN) flight between Brussels and any US Sabena gateway city and Sabena marketed/AA operated US domestic flight between gateway city and Atlanta.

United Airlines has advised us that they plan to revise their entire flight schedule for the months of November and December. United Express will replace United Shuttle service for the following city pairs:

  • San Francisco (SFO) - Ontario (ONT)
  • Los Angeles (LAX) - Medford (MFR)
  • Los Angeles (LAX) - Reno (RNO)
Dates Effective: Changes will be effective October 31, 2001.
Passenger's Options
  • Specific details will be available soon, however UA has indicated that flights will not be seriously affected as this will in effect be only a change of aircraft.
