"Surfers paradise"

5.0/5

Sat, May 18, 2013 Atlantic City, New Jersey

Turtle bay resort is at the other end of Oahu the north end where the waves are bigger and the famous Banzai pipeline is down the road. If your looking for night life this is not for you. The grounds are beautiful I mean really so green and the flowers u felt like you were in Hawaii!! Is just laid back the staff was great!! You need a car to stay at that end of the island! We stayed with another couple and it was too boring for them they like to see people and live bars and stuff like that! They had music every night in the lobby bar area it was good!!:) the rooms nice and spacious And a great view of the ocean and surfers! Nice size balcony! I got hooked on the passion juice in the restaurants so good!!!! It's really romantic walking around turtle bay they have two beaches and a pool outside bar by the pool! Great place can't wait to go back!!

"One of my favorite vacations"

If you are looking for a real 'get away', this is it. The North Shore of Oahu is known for surfing. It is a laid back kind of place. Not a destination for night life or shopping. However, it is a destination for long walks on the beach, friendly people, doing what ever you want at your own pace. The Turtle Bay Resort is beautiful. Views out every window, friendly staff, and they offer lots to do if you want to do it! Yoga classes, horseback riding, kayak tours, surfing lessons, golf. We had a wonderful stay here, I am looking forward to going back! Yes, as others have said, the prices to eat at the hotel are expensive. I have found this to be the case at all large hotels in Hawaii. I think they force people to eat off site, we only had two meals at the hotel. If all the hotels dropped the prices just a little bit for food, they could increase their revenues!

"Simply Amazing"

The rooms are gorgeous, huge, and all have amazing views. The staff are wonderful, kind, helpful and put up with tourists very well. We developed a great relationship with our cleaning crew, and she was so sweet to us. There are so many activities available, the restaurants have excellent food and service, and you can walk down to the beach any time you'd like. We snorkled, went horseback riding, hiked around, lounged on the beach and by the pool, enjoyed a day at the spa, had a couples massage on the beach and had the perfect vacation. If you go to the north shore, please stay here. You'll never forget it.

"Remote and over priced"

4.0/5

Tue, May 14, 2013 Beaumont, Texas

We stayed for 5 days in April 2013. Or room was nice and had a view of the beach area. We it was to sit out on balcony and watch the waves and see the people in the beach. It was a remote area and if you did not have a car, to bad. The prices to eat there are very expensive, our breakfast was $48.00 and evening meal at the golf course was $68.00 and I had a salad and a mixed drink and husband has an entree and two beers. Now we understand why we saw so many people bringing in their food. I was very dissappointed in the way the spa handles the reservations. I was told you get a discount for remodeling that was taking place. I said great, but when I went to get message they tacked on a $27.00 service charge plus $7.00 in taxes. They 15% they tell you will be taken off because of remodeling in added back in as a service charge which I asked what that was and was told it amounts to a tip. That is not the amount that I would have tipped. I had to speak to a manager to get it all reversed and was told it might be on our ticket when we check out, which it was not. The resort is very nice but if they were to lower prices you would see people speniding more money there as opposed to going into the next towns for breakfast which we did twice.

"Great location, but it's very expensive for what you get"

My family and I had a lovely week's stay at Turtle Bay in one of the suites. Although we loved the location, the gorgeous clear blue water, the beach, the pool area and the staff, we were let down by the low quality of the rooms, the exorbitant restaurant prices and the extra charges for everything. Turtle Bay has a monopoly on this end of the island, as there are no other resorts around, which is great because the area is so undeveloped and beautiful, but they have you over a barrel unless you feel like driving 15-20 minutes to the nearest town for food. The breakfast buffet at the Kula Grille was excellent (it was included with our room or $30/person a la carte) and our dinner at Lei Lei's on the golf course was very good and reasonably priced with very large portions. However, a plain burger at the Hang Ten grill by the pool was $18 and it was just okay. At Ola overlooking the beach, things turned much worse as entrees averaged around $70. We ordered salmon salads for $18 that included lettuce that was yellow and a cucumber that had gone bad and someone else ordered a pork dish that sat untouched because it was so bad. We started the meal with popcorn with "truffle butter" that was super greasy. No es beuno. Suggestions: 1. Plan your meals and get the breakfast buffet included with your room. Load up at Foodland and fill your fridge with drinks and snacks. Head to Mr. Bobo's for barbecue. 2. Go to Waimea Valley and bring your walking shoes and swimsuit to swim in the waterfall. It's amazing and a great day trip. 3. Relax at the pool and hot tub. 4. Head to the Lobby Lounge in the morning for delicious coffees ($5/soy latte, $14/sandwiches). 5. Take lots and lots of money, as you'll need it! ($25/day resort fee, $150/day charge in case you purchase something, etc.) 6. Try to get a renovated room with everything working. If management is reading this, please update your amenities along with the decor. Stay at a Sheraton to see how it's done. We were not impressed with the clothing shops at the hotel because they carried only the major surf labels instead of local goods. Coming from California, it was pretty funny to see since we could spend a whole lot less at home for the same stuff.
