"Slightly Overrated"

3.0/5

Sat, May 18, 2013 Chula Vista, California

My husband and I stayed in the Belvedere Lakeview suite, which is one of the nicest (and most expensive) suites, for our honeymoon back in November of 2012.The 2 story room with balcony was absolutely fantastic and I have no complaints about it at all. It was the overall stay that was a little disappointing considering the quality of the hotel were were staying at. First, I have to preface my review with the fact that we did travel in the shoulder season and I understand some perks are naturally unavailable when less guests are there. That being said, their two top restaurants were closed for renovation during our stay. That in itself was a little disappointing as I don't see why the renovations couldn't have been staggered to allow one restaurant to remain open while the other one got worked on. But the real frustrating thing was that no one in this large high class hotel seemed to have a total grasp of what was open and what was not and we continued to get our hopes up as we were told by some employees that one or the other of the restaurants were open (or that if they weren't open we would be able to order off of the closed restaurants menu for in room service) when in fact none of that was correct. We did eventually find the restaurants ourselves (the hotel is very large with several floors of shopping and restaurants/cafe's) only to find out they were indeed closed. Second disappointing thing was that they don't offer any kind of romantic package to make an occasion such as a honeymoon special while their other location in Banff does. They do offer spa packages, a couples package and such but nothing with dinner, welcoming flowers and the whole deal together. I just find that odd considering this is a top honeymoon destination site. And maybe we just had bad luck but they decided to test their hotel fire alarm at around 5pm, just before we were set to finally have our romantic in room dinner. Again, couldn't planning have been a little better and this could have been done earlier in the day? To their credit, of the places to eat that were open, the food was good and the staff friendly. The biggest kudos I have to give is to the in room staff crew who went out of their way to make us a beautiful sugar leaf and rose creation with chocolate covered strawberries when my husband told them it was our honeymoon and he was looking for something special to brighten up dinner. Overall the location was incredible, there were plenty of activities to do nearby and the room and view were fantastic but I think these features are relied on too heavily for a satisfactory rating and the details that make a stay truly enjoyable go a little by the wayside. Maybe my expectations were too high but this was to be a highlight of our trip and for a place that is incredibly high priced even for the shoulder season I think the hotel should maintain the same high standards year round or at least look for feedback from past guests. We never got an email asking about the quality of our stay and I cannot see where a review can be written on their website.

"A Perfect Location For a Hotel!"

4.0/5

Fri, May 17, 2013 Vancouver, Washington

While we did not stay at this hotel, we spent a good part of an afternoon there, marveling at the view and enjoying a delicious lunch. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table because we hadn't a reservation, but that allowed us to explore the lobby and the shops. We were given a window table, and WHAT A VIEW we had of the Lake, which was still covered with ice. The very nice wait staff told us that during the previous week one could walk on the lake, and that every winter, the hotel puts up a skating rink, complete with an Ice Castle through which skaters can glide! The extraordinary thing about Lake Louise, its aqua color, was not in evidence on our visit, but what was amazing is that the lake has almost no shoreline. The mountains just start upwards at lakeside!

"Can't beat the location but expensive"

4.0/5

Fri, May 17, 2013 Seattle, Washington

It is amazing to walk out of the beautiful hotel in the morning, evening, or any time and see the turquoise water. However, the hotel is very expensive, the standard rooms are not big, and there isn't much of a "park' around it. I booked two nights at the hotel on Fairmont's web site a few weeks before my trip. It cost $500 for a standard room in August. When we got there, my husband looked up the AAA rate and found a rate that is >$100 cheaper and is a "Gold" level room. So we stayed one night at the higher rate and one night at the AAA rate. The Gold level room covers breakfast and afternoon coffee. The food was so so but the service at the lounge was excellent. Even after we have checked out, we stayed in the lounge for quite a bit before we left for Calgary. The staff was extremely courteous and welcome us to stay there. The restaurants are ok and they are always crowded. The lobby restaurant is open and beautiful. When we were there for lunch, a harpist was playing and it was an ethereal experience. The hotel is relatively close to Lake Moraine, which has hiking trails and is bigger than Lake Louise. I recommend it for hiking.

"Added so much to our conference"

5.0/5

Wed, May 15, 2013 Calgary, Canada

During a 3-day conference at the Chateau in May 2013, each and every person in our group commented on the exceptional level of service and hospitality particularly from the bell desk staff. We had wonderful service in the Lakeview Lounge where we had our group lunches. Service at the Deli was great for our morning coffee and snacks. The Glacier Saloon hosted us for an informal standing gathering after being in the conference all day. Very much looking forward to my next opportunity to visit the beautiful Chateau.

"Simply outstanding!"

5.0/5

Fri, May 10, 2013 Houston, Texas

Everything about the Chateau is outstanding: location, service, rooms, views, hiking, food, drinks. This is one of our favorite hotels anywhere in the world. The staff really seem to care about our comfort. Anything we need it is done, and all with a smile. The rooms are airy, beds are super-comfortable. The location next to lake Louise is fabulous. We came at the end of the ski season, the hotel was still running good reliable shuttle service to the Lake Louise ski resort. That made our stay even more enjoyable. Very highly recommended for a romantic getaway, or just to enjoy a few days of pampering.
