"Honeymoon in Curacao"

5.0/5

Thu, May 9, 2013 Lethbridge, Canada

Left the Morena Resort and was not dissapointed when we arrived at what used to be the Hyatt. Beautiful resort, nice pools and beach, as well as super super friendly staff. Had the odd little thing like ants in the room, but anything that did go wrong could not compete with what a super fabulous resort this is; did I mention the food?? Delicious food!!!! Just didn't care for all the paperwork and having to sign for everything for all inclusive option. Beware: super expensive to stay here. It is far away from everything and costs a fortune to go anywhere unless you rent a car but still long drives, so expect to just stay and relax most of the time. Great for families! They were always attentive to our daughter. Didn't love Curacao, preferred Aruba.

"Very Isolated and very poor customer service"

You must have a car if you stay at this resort. Even from the entrance gate to the hotel is a ten minute drive to reach the hotel. Our fridge had to be replaced ... our TV had to be worked on, our TV remote had to be replaced. We received shampoo and tea bags the first day and did not get any more even though I called down to ask for some. Finally after complaining at the front desk the brought 5 - 6 bottles of shampoo to my room. One day our room was not cleaned until after 4:30. Friends of ours did not have their room cleaned at all on 2 different days. I also had to request face cloths two different times thru out the weeks. I think when they cleaning staff is short on an item, they do not bother trying to find it ... they just short the rooms of that items. The rooms and the view was quite beautiful ... the beaches are nice. They just need to train their house cleaning staff to follow up on items that are not working, or that they are short on.

"Tranquil luxury with friendly hospitality"

My wife and I enjoyed a fabulous vacation at this tranquil yet luxurious resort. The friendliness of the staff was quite remarkable; you truly get the sense that the employees care about your vacation experience. The only constructive suggestion I can offer is that sometimes mealtime service can be a bit slow; however, we were on vacation so this didn't really bother us.

"As good as its get in Curacao"

Situated at a beautiful location on Curacao, but not centrally located. Nice rooms, friendly staff and beautiful located at the beach. A real vacation experience even if you live on the island. Sometimes the hotel has great specials, check the website. The rooms have balcony.

"Beautiful Resort, Great Staff!"

4.0/5

My wife and I have stayed at quite a few resorts in the Caribbean, some all-inclusive and some not, and I would say that this one ranks near the top. The only reason I didn't give the resort a 5 out of 5 is because the dining options are a little limited, and as I'm sure you've already read in other reviews, the resort is pretty isloated, but I'll get to that in a little bit. The resort itself is stunning. The grounds are perfectly kept, the rooms were spotless and the pool and beach area was a lot of fun. We had a partial ocean view room on the side of the resort near the Shor restaurant and really liked the location we had. It was quiet, but a short walk to the pool which was perfect for us since we brought our 10 month old daughter along with us. The staff could not have been nicer to us, they all loved our daughter and wanted to hold her every chance they got. We were a little worried bringing a baby on vacation with us, but the staff really went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. We had requested a crib in the room and it was there when we arrived so that was great. As far as the food, we had the breakfast buffet included when we booked, and we thought the buffet was fantastic. They had different items every day, so we weren't sick of it at all by the end of the week. Most of the days we'd eat a ton for breakfast and bring a bagel or something out with us so we would skip lunch. They do have plenty of high chairs at the Medi restaurant so if you are travelling with a young child they can accomodate you. As far as dinner goes, that's where the dining options were a little limited. They have the Medi restaurant which we ate at once. Some of the nights at Medi they have a "theme" night where it's typically a buffet for around $30 a person which we thought was a little steep for a pizza buffet or Mexican buffet. But the nights that it's the a la carte menu it's really good. I had a flatbread pizza and my wife had pasta and we really enjoyed it and it was very reasonably priced. We did eat at the Shor restaurant and unfortunately we were not impressed. We both got the spare ribs and they were just okay, especially for the price. We had made reservations for 2 different nights there, but we cancelled the second one and ended up going to El Gaucho twice instead. The El Gaucho is the closest restaurant off the resort, and it's fantastic. It's about a 15 minute drive which is not bad. 10 minutes of the drive are just getting off the resort grounds which are massive. The pizza in the Bella Italia is decent, we both agreed the pizza at Medi was much better, and it's actually cheaper at Medi. But the gelato there is really good, and they have plenty of sodas, juice and that kind of thing. We rented a car for the entire trip and were really glad we did. We thought driving around Curacao was extremely easy, especially with a GPS. The speed limits on the roads are slow, and traffic isn't bad at all. I would 100% recommend getting a car at least for a few days so you can drive to the west end of the island and visit some of the beaches such as Playa Porto Marie, Playa Kenepa and Playa Cas Abou. If you don't get lost it takes about an hour to get from the resort to the far west end of the island. Also, downtown Willemstad is really interesting and has tons of shops and restaurants. Some other reviews said they thought the driving was crazy, and we totally disagreed, and we don't even deal with big city traffic at home. All in all we loved the resort, and really loved Curacao. With all of the Dutch influence and European guests it made it feel a lot more exotic than Jamaica or the Bahamas. I would 100% recommend Curacao and the Santa Barbara to my friends, which is the most important thing. The only reason I did not give it a 5 out of 5 was the limited dining options for dinner, and the distance from everything. But if you are on the fence about whether to book a trip here, I would definitely recommend it. The resort is beautiful, clean, modern and has a fantastic staff. Thanks for reading and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Safe travels!
