"REALLY ENJOYED IT"

4.0/5

Sun, May 19, 2013 Greenfield Hill, Connecticut, United States

We stayed the last week of February 2013 and really enjoyed it. Everyting is not perfect as some people write, but no place is and its one of the nicest resorts we ever stayed at. Took a car from the airport. Janus runs a private service and you can make reservations by e-mail. Took about one hour but the drivers were akways conversant and knowledgeable so the time passed quickly and you learn a lot about what to see and do. We had a veranda room and it was always cleaned very well. If you need something just ask o leave a note in the room and its there when you get back. I'm a TV person and didn't miss it one bit. I did have my laptop and the terrace had a good connection. It was so, so in the room. Bring your CD's for music as that is all that is available in the room. We brought our favorites and played them while sipping drinks on the veranda. Bring a bottle of wine back with you after dinner and relax. Ask and they will get you one. The room has a mini fridge with nothing in it so there is pleanty of room to fit a bottle of Chardonay. We read about this so we brought some extras to enjoy back at the room. We rented a scooter (we both are 58) and took off each morning to explore the island. Most drivers are courteous but watch out for those speed bumps and crags in the road. Carson Zelner runs a service and he will deliver it to the resort. Make reservations by e-mail. We went to Marigot Bay for the views, Pidgeon Island for snorkeling (watch out for that current), Gros Islet for the casino, Casteries for the market and shops, Cotton Bay, The Body Holiday and on Sunday for service at the Cathederal, and just all over. The sister resort at the Body Holiday was newer but the expanse of our beach told us we made the right choice. We heard the food was better there but we were very happy with what we got. Six liters of gas lasted the whole week. Every day at about noon, we finished exploring and came back to the resort for lunch and after that, we hit the beach. There were always loungers and fast service fom the bar after you raised your flag. Kudos to Eric and Trevor. The food was good and there was always pleanty of selections. Sometimes there was a wait if you has something specially fixed at breakfast but not more than a few minutes. That actually gave you time to bring a juice and something else back to your table. Coffee was a bit slow to get but there were lots of people. We enjoyed the ala carte Trysting Place the best though as its always nice to be waited on by Harry and his staff. Make your reservations when you arive. The entertainment was mixed but they did have a couple of good R&R and R&B nights. Piano music at the champagne bar and guitar strumming at the Trysting Place. Certainly not the best but always enjoyable. The beach was great in both directions for long walks. The cemetary and airport to the left made it very private. Nice to watch a plane or two taking off overhead during the day. There was always security on the beach and at the entrance keeping a watchful eye. The beach guys at the dive shop did all the work bringing you in or out after taking a sail on a Hobi Cat. We tried to do that every other day when the wind was right. Its a wide openbay and lots of fun for a sail. We never had time for a dive or to try water skiing. Maybe next time. Overall, the food, beach, bars and service were excellent. No bugs because they fog the area once a week. We were never bored, read a lot and enjoyed each other's company during our down time. They do post daily activities and excursions. We did the sail out of Casteries to Sufries, where we did the mud bath at the hot springs, the rainforest and then snorkeling in the deep bay. There was so much for us to see and do having a scooter, we had no time to participate in the activities but others told us it was good. Would we go back? Yes. Was everything five star and perfect? No but it felt like home and the staff was excellent!

"A beautiful oasis"

5.0/5

Sun, May 19, 2013 Ottawa

We booked our stay through West Jet Vacations in Canada and stayed a week as a couple in mid-April. The transfer from the airport to the hotel was smooth but rather slow - count on an hour and fifteen minutes through very winding roads. Don't let your first impressions arriving at the hotel discourage you -- the airfield and nearby cemetery are not what you expect from a resort environment, but once you get onto the property, you are in a beautiful secluded oasis. The check-in was friendly and efficient - the hotel layout is somewhat unusual in that there isn't a traditional reception desk. It's a small, intimate place and the main building has a bar, lounge and dining area in an open area, within a few meters of the beach. The room was clean and tastefully decorated - a refreshing break from standard cookie-cutter hotel fare. The four poster bed was very comfortable and the bathroom modern and immaculate. You notice the absence of a television, which is a great idea. It's part of the hotel's approach to fostering a very quiet, romantic atmosphere, disconnected from the regular day-to-day routine. The food was amazing. Plentiful, varied and carefully prepared. There are very healthy choices as well as a real effort to cater to guests who may have food sensitivities or allergies. There is a theme each day and the food is the best we've encountered in high end all inclusive hotels. Take a pass on the Trysting Place formal dining room -- it's dark, stuffy and the food was disappointing. Much better to enjoy the gorgeous open terrace of the buffet restaurant, just a few meters from the sea (there are also a couple of cute cats that wander around!) No matter where you encounter staff - at the restaurant, buffet, bar, yoga class, pool, room - they are consistently top notch. The service is extraordinary and always warm and friendly. The management was very attentive and made a real effort to connect with guests and address them by name. The Rendezvous has a capacity of 100 rooms for couples only, and has 200 staff on site -- no wonder that a guest never has a need that's not attended to quickly and efficiently. The grounds are beautiful - lush vegetation and a gorgeous blue tiled pool. The spa is superior to those normally found at resorts or hotels. The beach is lovely and quiet... as other reviewers noted, it is not a private beach so there are a few locals walking by - mostly, not a problem. There are several activities onsite as well as excursions provided by external suppliers. The onsite activities could use a bit of refreshing -- a lot of somewhat corny couple games and limited variety. In particular, it rained heavily during the first three days of our stay and we found there was very little to do. A movie night once a week and other indoor options would be recommended. On the other hand, the hotel organizes a bike trip to Castries which is worthwhile and a morning walk to the lighthouse located at the other end of the bay. We enjoyed the Land and Sea daytrip on the western coast of the island -- a great opportunity to get to know St Lucia and discover various parts of the island. We really enjoyed the guests at the Rendezvous - it's mostly visitors from the UK, with a wide age range. We met a few Canadians and Americans as well. The resort is unique for its intimate, quiet atmosphere. A few items for improvement: - We found smoking to be a problem at times -- on several occasions we couldn't enjoy common areas such as the lounge or the beach because of smoke. The hotel should consider non smoking areas, or even going entirely non smoking. While the rooms are supposed to be non smoking, we were woken up by the smell of smoking through the vents. - The hotel offers free WiFi which is a plus - however, it should be improved to provide more stable access from rooms TIP: Upon check-out do not hesitate to order the hotel's picnic lunch to take with you to the airport. It's very reasonably priced and plentiful - in fact, we could only eat half!

"Golden Wedding in Paradise"

5.0/5

Sat, May 18, 2013 Craigavon

We have just returned from spending our golden wedding anniversary at the Rendezvous. It truly is a little gem of a resort, from the moment you enter through the lobby into the beautiful gardens, its just like a little retreat from the world. This was our fourth visit over a period of eight years, our first visit impressed us so much we try and return as often as possible (and we had previously never ever gone back to the same place twice!!) During the past four years a lot of money has been spent improving and updating the rooms, main terrace dining area, outside dining area, beach areas, spa and pool areas. The only area that needed no improvement is the attitude of the staff, nothing is too much trouble and they genuinely want every guest to thoroughly enjoy their holiday. This is expressed by every member of staff from reception, dining/waiting staff, bar attendants, cleaners and the gardeners, its lovely to be greeted by warm smiles and friendly faces everyday. If you want to spend a really chilled out holiday, in lovely surroundings, with great attentive staff in a small friendly resort when everyone has time to talk to you, then go to the Rendezvous. You won't be disappointed.

"Nice resort but luxury rooms need facelift"

3.0/5

Sat, May 18, 2013

We recently returned from late April, our biggest concerns where the very mixed reviews this hotel receives! We had paid premium extra for a luxury beachfront room, the first room we where shown smelt badly of damp! We where shown another and this was better, but fittings even air con controls are badly worn, including shower and fittings, after reading the basic garden rooms have just had a make over, you have thought they would started the luxury rooms first! The beach is cleaned spotless every morning but the sea is not clear, not like a carbiean sea?unfortunately on arrival we had 2 full days of rain, although drinks and snacks where plentiful, only inside entertainment put on by the team of entertainers was a game of bingo and golf ball rolling the following day! Thankfully wi fi works fairly well, as there are no tv's in the rooms, there is a tv room but no wanted to pick a channel with the other 20 guests! Surley more inside entertaiment can be planned on liquid sunshine days! Benjamin the tall security guard is excellent on the beach, he works for a private security firm but should be made head of security of the hotel, he controls the beach very well, and will shadow you is you walk to the right of the hotel, he only had 1 day off, our last day of stay, and his replacement was hopeless! The food is ok a good choice but rotates on a same weekly menu, the dishes do empty quite quickly on a evening, and they really need someone to monitor this, maybe they could watch the dress code as well as this has no control. The Bacon cold in the mornings pre cooked, could this be not fresh with the eggs? Small airport near by only has around 6 small fights a day and is no problem, mini bus transfer is ok, roads are very good around a hour and half but good to see the island, no need to pay the premium for helicopter transfer, I did get the impression the management are happy with how things are, and don't really appreciate your input or comments on improvement!

"Excellent again"

5.0/5

Fri, May 17, 2013 Poole

This was our second stay at this resort and once again it more than lived up to what we were looking for from this holiday. No children, great staff and lots of relaxation. We enjoyed the food again especially in the Trysting place. The thing we like about Rendezvous is that you never feel likje yu are in a huge resort and therefore you get to know the staff (and they you as well) and also interact with other couples and make lasting friendships. Yes there is a graveyard nearby but so what! Its not exactly spooky and the noise fro the airport is minimal. We also spoke to a couple complaioning that there was no TV in the room - true but who wants to spend the their holiday watching TV when you can be in the bar or relaxing by the pool. Also agree it's not abig resort with mases of facilitiies but again that suits us as we have no desire to go the Sandals of this world
