"Excellent location, service and rooms."

5.0/5

Tue, Jun 11, 2013

Classy, yet approachable. Location is excellent and staying in nice, 'walkable' town is my preference, as opposed to staying in the city. Located 'near everything,' including BART. More coffee packets and bathroom accessories would be helpful, but they'll gladly supply you with more upon request. Check-in was a breeze, but be aware that there's a parking fee; however, this isn't the place to stay if you're the type of person to lose sleep over parking surcharges. Mini and snack bar aren't surprisingly expensive (depends upon what you pick) and includes a key, which makes it easy to control things, if you're the registered guest of your party.

"Nice and quaint, great service but, near the highway..."

Sat, Jun 1, 2013 Dallas, Texas

We really liked our room, the service and the pool. I loved the pub which I had several meetings in. I think the location is great for business but, not for a family vacation. It is located directly next to a busy highway. Don't get me wrong, the rooms are very charming and the service was great...

"Always a good stay"

5.0/5

Tue, May 28, 2013 Seattle, WA

My family had the opportunity to stay at the LPH again recently and the experience was exactly what we've come to expect at this small gem in the middle of the East Bay. The room, service and accommodations make you feel pampered in an unpretentious atmosphere. Having lived in the Bay Area for a number of years, I never stayed at the LPH. Now, that we are in the Seattle area, Lafayette Park is the only place we will stay whenever we come to visit.

"Petite Suite not so sweet"

3.0/5

Fri, May 24, 2013 Main Line of Philadelphia, PA USA

This was our second visit to the Lafayette Park Hotel, where we stayed while visiting family in the Walnut Creek area, and we found the accommodations much less pleasing than on our first visit about 5 years ago. We stayed in a petite suite (room 326, I think) and expected a very nice room based on their website photos. The room was indeed very large, but the layout was very poor, and the carpet and furnishings were very tired looking. (The carpet actually looked a little seedy- we avoided going barefoot even for a moment.) The room was long and narrow, with the bed off to one side on an elevated platform area (which really is a real trip-and-fall risk). The bed was so-so - I woke up with a backache. The TV was small in proportion to the room and the distance from the bed. The windows looked out onto a dismal view of a chain-link fence, provided very little light, and could hardly have been less appealing. The bathroom was of a moderate size with a single sink and a combination shower/tub - pretty average. There was adequate storage space, with 2 dressers of drawers and plenty of hangers in an average-sized closet. There were night stands with drawers on each side of the bed. We were surprised to find no in-room safe, which is practically standard these days. The sitting area had a desk, and a sofa and table. There was free internet access with WiFi which worked well. There was a small mini-refrigerator stocked with typical for-sale items. Valet parking was available for $15/day, or you can self-park. The underground lot is very crowded with very tight spaces and lots of big columns to navigate. Complimentary coffee was offered on a table in the lobby area. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on their food. (We did have dinner at a nearby Italian restaurant called Cucina Italiana that was very good - see our review.) Overall, while service was fine and the room was large, but the room had no esthetic appeal at all. I don't think we'll go back to the Lafayette Park Hotel the next time we visit the area. It's a shame because I remember a much nicer experience 5 years ago with a much more appealing room that was located at the other end of the hotel, near the big staircase, just above the lobby area. Maybe it would help to ask for a room on that side - not sure.

"Excellent hotel, off the beaten path!"

5.0/5

Tue, May 21, 2013 Anaheim, CA

I came across this hotel using jetsetter and was very pleased at what I received. I upgraded our room to the Premium King, and was placed on the 3rd floor facing the street. I was a bit worried that there would be excessive street noise, but the double pane glass made the room pefectly quiet. We actually slept with the windows open (yes, you can actually open the windows in this hotel... what a novelty!) and the street noise wasn't that bad. Yes, its close to the freeway, so you can hear trucks driving, but if you're a "city" person who needs white noise, its actually soothing to hear the stream of cars going by. The room was comfortable, fairly large, and had everything we needed. I think I'd ask for a courtyard view next time. For the fitness rats, the workout room is small. A few cardio machines, and pretty much that's it. The location is about an hour to Napa, and a little over an hour to the Jelly Belly factory. Very close to Berkeley and Oakland. The town of Lafayette is about 2 minutes by car, and there's a Whole Foods market, and plenty of fast food like McD's, Jack, etc... even a Starbucks! Grab an apple at the reception.. its delicious! Self parking available in the garage below.
