"Luxury lodging in beautiful Tahiti!"

4.0/5

Tue, May 14, 2013 Boulder, Colorado, United States

We arrived in Tahiti around 10pm and were very much looking forward to getting to our hotel and resting. Our taxi cab ride to Intercontinental was very short, maybe 6 minutes from the airport. When we arrived, we were greeted with fresh squeezed juice by a shirtless, muscular employee. It was quite warm so the juice really hit the spot. Checking in was a breeze (they auto-upgraded us to a bigger room!) and then we walked to our room. This is a very large resort so depending on where your room is, it can be quite a trek. We were famished and walked around, hoping a restaurant on the resort was still open. The only thing open at the time was the small cafe-ish restaurant near the lobby. We ordered a panini and chips, which we shared, and 2 Hinanos. They only served beer and wine at this cafe, which we were a little diappointed about. Waking up the next morning was glorious. The sky was so bright and the water so blue. We walked around and enjoyed looking at reef sharks in the ocean (they swim pretty close to the bridge that connects the over-water bungalows to the main pool area) and smal turtles in the various ponds on the resort grounds. The resort has 2 sand-bottom pools, which I thought was pretty cool. The best part of this resort is the lagoon. You can actually swim and snorkel in their lagoon and it has lots of beautiful fish in it! You also have the option of snorkeling and swimming in another lagoon that opens to the ocean! We didn't eat at the buffet since we weren't very hungry and it was quite hot but we did enjoy a charcuterie plate at the adjacent lounge area. The gift shop is small but has all of the necessities, in case you forgot to pack something: toiletries, cold bottled drinks, cigarettes, etc. They also have an ATM on site so you can take out Francs and not have to worry about going into town for money. The drawback is that the resort is kind of isolated. You can walk places but you'll have to walk quite a ways before you get to anything, and walking in Tahiti can get a bit dangerous, especially at night. This resort offers Wi-Fi but you have to purchase by the hour. We would return to this hotel, but we prefer more modest accommodations. While it's nice to stay at a resort every once in a while, we prefer to hang with locals and stay in pensiones and B&B's. It's a great place to stay if you are celebrating an event of if you are staying with a large group of people who have never been to Tahiti before.

"Three nights at Intercontinental Tahiti"

5.0/5

Tue, May 14, 2013 Auckland, New Zealand

Probably the best check in experience ever for us. The young lady at reception (sorry can't recall her name) just made it all so easy. We stayed in one of the panoramic view rooms which was absolutely fine. Room presentation and cleanliness was outstanding. Many people just flit through the ICH Tahiti on the way to somewhere else but Tahiti and Papeete are well worth a longer visit. Just down the road from the ICH is a Carrefour supermarket where you can treat yourself to range of wonderful French cheese, meats, olives, wine and other delicacies at good prices (compared to back home NZ). Definitely get breakfast included with your room - you can fill up there and get through most of the day - or as above go and buy some great nibbles from the local market rather than eat at the hotel restaurants all of the time. Great gym that we only used once. Lovely grounds and lagoonarium in which you can spend hours just enjoying. Overall ICH Tahiti staff and facility were great - under-appreciated by many travellers possibly.

"Beautiful Hotel with Friendly Staff"

5.0/5

Tue, May 14, 2013 Milwaukee, Wisconsin

We arrived at the Intercontinental Tahiti late on a Saturday night after arriving from Honolulu. We checked right in and the staff at the front desk could not have been more friendly. They wished us a Happy 25th Wedding Anniverary, thanked us for staying with them and offered us a drink of fresh fruit juice while we were checking in. My reservation was for a Panoramic View Room on a Buy One Get One Ambassador Club Certificate. We were upgraded to a Lotus OTW Bungalow. Our room was beautiful and appeared newly remodeled and very clean. The room consisted of a sitting area with desk and refrigerator. There was a separate area with a King Size bed and a television that pivoted between the two rooms. There were gifts of a pareo and cookies on the bed. The room had lots of windows to enjoy the beautiful view. There was a deck with two lounge chairs and we were able to step down into the water right from our platform. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset right from our deck. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was quite large with a large tub, separate shower and an enclosed toilet. We ate dinner at the Lotus Restaurant, which we really enjoyed (see separate review). The grounds of this hotel are beautiful. There is an adult pool with a swim-up bar which is very nice. There is also a family pool and a lagoonarium. We witnessed quite a few workers maintaining the grounds. The hotel has laundry facilities for is guests and the machines were located in the ice hut near our room. These are not coin operated machines, but rather regular machines available at no charge. I thought this was a nice touch. I have only great things to say about this hotel. We enjoyed our stay and hope that we will be able to return one day soon.

"Great resort, horrible restaurant!"

2.0/5

Mon, May 13, 2013 Seattle, Washington

We stayed at this resort before and after a cruise and the resort itself is great! The bad part about staying at the resort is that you are forced to eat at the restaurant and deal with the insanely slow service and staff with nothing but ATTTITUDE! There is nothing else near the resort so prepare for the restaurant to ruin your experience. After a great cruise and great first night at this resort, we left Tahiti with a bad taste in our mouth. We showed up at the restaurant 2 hours before we had to leave for our flight (thinking that was plenty of time to grab a quick bite) but we were sorely mistaken. After waiting for an hour and a half for food, we finally had to get up and leave so we didn't miss our shuttle. When we spoke to the restaurant manager about the issue, he told us it was our fault and that we should have ordered something easier or done the buffet ... really? As we were leaving, our food was finally on the way out and we offered to pay and take it with us to go. The restaurant manager threw a fit and started shouting something in French at the hostess, then stormed off. We were informed by the hostess that they were going to toss the food. Two other tables near us that same night had the same experience. Although a very nice resort, that experience alone is enough to make us never go back.

"Best Place to stay on Tahiti"

5.0/5

Thu, May 9, 2013 Mill Valley, California

We had two nights here in this incredible resort in a gorgeous suite! We had just arrived from New Zealand and felt instantly welcomed with the warm and friendly staff. The airport is minutes away but we never heard any noise from that. The hotel had upgraded our reservations with this amazing room when they found out we were celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary. They presented me with a beautiful pareo from the hotel and chocolate chip cookies to munch on. We are swimmers so loved the beautiful pool and waterfall in front of the restaurant. There are two pools to choose from plus a neat area you can snorkle in with the fish and sea life. The breakfasts were huge with tons of possibilities to choose from. Dinners were very good and we really appreciated the salads with tuna and shrimp. Sashimi was delicious as well. Loved the staff everywhere, at the front desk, in the restaurant, and at the pool. We left here for Moorea for the InterContinental as well. After our visits there and other islands we returned here for our last day before heading home to San Francisco. We had left a bag here for almost two weeks. It was the perfect place to reorganize, relax, enjoy the pool, restaurant, and wonderful staff before heading home. This company knows what they are doing.
