"sad mother's day"

I have been wanting to stay at the Galvez since I was a small child, and last weekend (my mother's day present) I finally did. I was so excited until I walked in the front door and found that half of the lobby was under construction. I went ahead and checked in with a very nice lady and went up to my room. When my husband and I got things put away we headed back down to sit at the bar and have a drink. When we walked to the east wing we were stopped by kitchen staff letting us know that we could go into the dinning/bar areas because of a wedding, but we could go to the other end where they set up a bar. We went to the other end of the hotel for the people to tell us that the area was setup for a wedding as well. Not wanting my husband to feel bad I turned this into a possitive by telling him we could walk the seawall and find a place to have a drink. We didn't even try to enjoy the spa thinking that it would have been booked as well. We thought about staying another night but were afraid that we would encounter the same issues so decided to go elsewhere. It just makes me so sad I waited so very long to go to the Galvez. My husband wanted to do something special for me and this was my experience.

We have stayed at the Hotel Galvez before and enjoyed it. We were part of a wedding and didn't want to complain. Our room was so tiny there were no drawers. There wasn't a comfortable chair. We will go back to the Galvez, but will make sure the room is larger and there isn't construction in the main lobby.

Stayed for one night in a double on the fifth floor. The best online rate wasn't great but did include parking and wi-fi. The location is great: on the Seawall near the Pleasure Pier and just a few minutes drive from the Strand. The room and bathroom were small but not cramped. The beds were very comfortable but full size rather than queen. The staff members were friendly and helpful. Overall, a pleasant stay, but I'd probably have to find a better rate were I to stay there again.

Went on line and chose the hotel for its amenities. The lobby and bar looked lovely. Unfortunately neither were available during our stay. Pool was nice but very noisy music. Really not what I expected, much prefer Westin properties.

We stayed at the Hotel Galvez the last week of April 2013. Our room was on the 5th floor and had a great view of the ocean, yes, it was little, but was fine with us since we didn't spend much time in the room. We had a room with two double beds which we would have preferred a king but they were comfortable. Hotel is nicely located and we would stay there again. The pool area was the selling point for us when looking for a quick getaway for the weekend. Swimming pool was not heated and it was too cold this weekend to go in anyway. We had a good time just lying out and catching some rays. Pool service was slow on Friday but picked up on Saturday. All of the valets were awesome and helpful on helping us find restaurants nearby. Overall a great experience.
