"Upcoming renovations"

4.0/5

Wed, May 22, 2013 Traverse City, Michigan

My wife and I have stayed at the Inn several times during our search for a home here. Dog friendly, good service, excellent breakfast in the cafe, and terrific entertainment by the beach always made for a good stay. Their location can't be beat with all rooms having terrific West Bay views. There is a good swimming beach and downtown is just a few blocks away. But, we did feel that the Inn was a little dated and the rooms a bit tired. We came to town a few weeks ago (we now have our own place) and noticed that the Inn was under renovation. Yesterday we stopped in to inquire about the renovations and whether their beachside entertainment would still be in swing this summer. Well, as we inquired at the front desk the GM, Deborah, came by and gave us a grand tour through the construction zone, and showed us updated rooms and described all the new amenities coming as they are upgrading the Inn to "Resort" status with several family oriented activities. She told us that Holiday Inn was spending over $10M in upgrades to rooms, pools, exercise facilities, etc. We were very impressed with the new modern decor and warm furnishings. The staff we met were very friendly and egging. We topped off our tour in the newly renovated "Shimmers" night club sipping a terrific class of chardonnay as we took in the beautiful West Bay view. Our only disappointment is that we no longer have a reason to stay here. But we will come and enjoy the food and entertainment.

"STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS"

Sat, May 4, 2013 Windsor, Canada

I'm going to begin by saying that I stay in hotel an average of 4 times a week. I have seen my fair share of the good and the bad but this has been by far the worst I have ever seen. First of all the hotel is undergoing renovations - they shouldn't even be open at this point during construction. Drywall was falling on my head as they were ripping down the ceiling directly above the entrance to the breakfast area during breakfast hours....The bathrooms in the rooms had not been updated and just seemed dingy. The rest of the room had been renovated and I use that term lightly. New wallpaper and carpeting by the looks of it. However the wallpaper was put up with a very poor job, it wasn't even cut so it fit the walls smoothly. Just seemed like a cheap job done. Again this is not the worst of my stay --Just some background. There is a nightclub downstairs, and I could hear the music from my room on the 2nd floor. It was after 11pm so I called the front desk to be informed that it would last until 2 AM. I'm here to get a good nights sleep, not be up with music all night. They offered to switch my room so I took advantage of it. I get to my new room walk over to the bed area and see a huge porn poster on the bed....How something like that even happens, where they would let a guest into a room like that I still don't understand. Otherwise the room had look cleaned but someone had clearly been in there....I was so disgusted. I called the front desk again, and they moved me again - without saying anything. No apology, nothing. So I am in my third room for the night...The walls are paper thin and I could hear the people in the room beside me, but at this point that is the least of the issues I have experienced at this hotel. Never again will I stay here. Not a place for a good nights sleep, and definitely makes you wonder who has access to the rooms at different points of time. I'm just glad I didn't have my kids with me to see that. I wouldn't wish this hotel on someone I didn't like. They wouldn't even comp my room for me. I've never been so disgusted with a hotel.

"Horrible Hotel. Go somewhere else."

I will start off by saying it was horrible, by horrible I mean, not very clean and even with a refurbished room it was old (they remodeled the room but not the bathrooms. bad decision). The customer service at the front desk was terrible, but the maintenance man that had to come to our room to fix the phone and fix the ice machine was very nice. Also, the young men that brought things to our room were nice as well. If you would like to know more about the horrible experience continue reading. From check in the front desk ladies were both rude. We were not given a warning that the hotel was under renovations. The pool was opened that day and the water was freezing (it was actually cold from our check in Friday to Sunday). There was no gym, they put a few equipments into the pool. who the heck wants to workout in a pool? We walk into the room after the lady said we were the first ones that were going to use it, the TV stand was really dusty, our shower had stains in it and when we called the front desk the phone wasn't working. We went down to tell the lady our room was dirty for being the first ones to use it and we were unaware of the renovations that were taking place and were disappointed because the 4 of us work out everyday. She said "I don't know what you want me to tell you, our gym is closed you can drive to a local gym, or you can simply work out on the beach." why would we want to leave our hotel and drive 10 minutes away to a gym, we did not want to work out outside because it was freezing. we wanted a different room since our "brand new room" was filthy. We asked her if we can upgrade to a suit and we would pay the difference and she said "no this hotel does not have any suits." their website says otherwise, and they did have available suits that weekend. We figured if we were going to move our room we might as well move into a bigger one, WHILE ALSO PAYING THE DIFFERENCE. We did not want to get a free upgrade we told her we would pay, but the attitude we were getting back from her was completely rude and unacceptable. We told her we were disappointed in the service since we usually stay at Holiday Inns and have never had horrible service like that. Her response was "I don't understand why you guys are complaining, you are staying here at an employee rate for $60 while other people are paying $119 a night." Well, If we knew an employee rate would've given us a horrible experience we would've paid full price. but it wasn't just because of the employee rate because they were just as rude to other people. she then continued to say "well, if you want I will gladly refund you your money and you can go somewhere else." we would've gladly left, but after a 12 hr road trip and taking all of our luggages down we were exhausted and didn't want to pack and unpack the car again. The next morning in our "remodeled shower in the refurbished room" the water was not draining and caused it to leak all over the bathroom floor. and when the water finally went down black particles were coming up from the drain and out of the shower head. disgusting! not to mention the toilet barely worked we had to flush 4 times for it to finally flush. It was a horrible experience when we told all of the locals about the rude service they all apologized and were embarrassed that we were being treated that way. But also agreed that they have heard many complaints about that hotel. Horrible hotel and horrible customer service!

"Great location, nicer rooms (finally!)"

Tue, Apr 23, 2013 Grand Rapids, Michigan

We were here this past weekend for three nights and were able to stay in a remodeled room. The carpeting, furnishings, etc had been redone and look nice. I would have liked the old bathroom wall tile/shower and tub to have been updated as well. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful. I'm disappointed to have found out that Wingers is closing after the remodel. It was a nice place to grab a drink and be able to walk back to your room. There was still a lot of construction going on so I will be interested to see the finished product. I hope the price doesn't go up even further with the finished remodel. Even with its great location, it's slowly starting to price itself outside of our budget that we may need to start looking elsewhere.

"Disappointed, again"

Mon, Apr 15, 2013 Lafayette, LA

Traveled here on business and booked for 4 nights. Arrived late on Thursday night to find the hotel under reconstruction - no notice of this when I booked the room. Had to drive around the hotel to find the entry way as the primary entry was closed and blocked by construction equipment and it was snowing/icing heavy. Walked through hotel from the bar entrance and it is a mess - dusty and smelly. The restaurant is closed and operating out of the bar. The exercise room is closed. I finally made my way to the front desk to find it a mess. The business center is closed as well - computers on a desk but nothing hooked up. I checked in and wasn't recognized as a Priority Club member. Took the elevator to the third floor and when the door opened up the smell of new carpet was over whelming. I made it to my room which was difficult to find due to the room numbers being taped to the walls - mine had fallen so I took a shot and my key opened my door. Room smelled of new carpet - carpet string all over the place. The bathroom is over due to be spruced up. The heat light in the ceiling is nothing more than a light bulb - not a heat bulb. The door must be closed to the bathroom to use the toilet as the shower rod keeps the door from opening all the way. The thermostat is broken - can't turn the fan off or on or automatic because the lever is missing. Furniture appears to be missing - there is an ottoman in the room but no chair. This is my second time of having problems at a Holiday Inn - only once here but I had a problem last week in Williamsport, PA. Maybe they will get their act together before the busy season but I was highly disappointed in this place and would not recommend anyone stay here. There was no discount on the room and in fact I paid a premium for the weekend nights?????
