"Five nights at Handlery"

We stayed at Handlery for five nights, there were three of us. Staff were very friendly and helpful when we arrived, explaining about the area and how they had a shuttle etc. We booked to get the shuttle in the morning for SeaWorld. Also at the Handlery they have a ticket booking office which is a great service, we booked tickets to go and see a baseball game at Petco Park. Our room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool which was a nice surprise, especially as we had told our son that there wasnt a pool!!! He was wrapped and not surprisingly was straight down there and into it. The pool can be noisy and at night when people decide to use it before it opens at 9.30am, but I'm pretty sure the hotel staff sort that when they know as it seems that the people move on pretty quickly. The rooms are a bit dated and the beds were a bit small but overall we were happy with the hotel, they have good laundry facilities, everyone is friendly and everything is clean. Its also a good location as its close to Central San Diego - taxi's are pretty reasonable if you want to go into the city ($22 for a town car to Petco Park). We also had a car which gave us lots of flexibility but we were warned not to go into central SD as parking is expensive so we utilised the Trolley Bus to do this bit of our tour. I would stay here again.

When we arrived we were not happy with our room for a 4 day stay so got an upgrade to a Room opening onto the Pool area. Nice Pool actually. If you just wanted a Unit for the night what we were first offered would be OK but for three of us it was a bit small & without a view. This is where the Staff come in, we paid a bit extra, room was changed, no fuss. This is what you want, things are not always perfect but if it is rectified without fuss the memories are good. For Clothes etc Shopping the location is ideal, a short walk to a Major Mall with good/nice shops. Handlery has a Courtesy Van, the driver was Jeff, you would think from the way he treated his passengers he owned the Handlery. Guys like him make a holiday, daily we were taken to & collected from our sightseeing, be it Balboa Park, the Zoo, Sea World or into the City Centre (none of which were far away). Never a problem, always a cheerful greeting & on time. No need for your own car when you stay here which is a major saving. The Décor is a bit aged but we would stay there again as the Location, helpful Front Desk Staff and Jeff & his Courtesy Van were real plusses for us. Warren from New Zealand.

"Great Stay in San Diego"

We stayed at the Handlery Hotel for 3 nights. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had to return a rental car to the airport, after driving down from LA and Jeff arranged for my husband to follow him to the airport and then bought him back to the hotel, as he was heading to the airport anyway to pick guests up. We really appreciated that. We had transfers to the zoo and sea world and Jeff arranged these with exactly the right amount of time required at each park - he is a really nice guy! We didn't dine in at all at the hotel and opted to walk 10-15 mins to the large shopping centre down the road every night, which was littered with different restaurants. The pool at this hotel is fantastic and our kids loved it and spent lots of time in the large pool and spa. Our room was very clean and was located on the ground floor just around the corner from the main lobby but we didn't find it noisy at all.

"Business Hotel Only"

We did a package with SW Airlines for this hotel they assured us it was a nice hotel. Well if you are in the gardenview or suites that may be the case, otherwise you are in seperate buildings overlooing the other buildings to the property. The rooms were noisy and very outdated, or shall we say the room we got? They cleaning was great, no complaints there, the cleaning staff did work hard and were very polite. The restaurant was NOT GOOD! We are NOT fussy people, but the food was not tasty at all. The service was good and the manager was available to check in with you, that was nice. The bar was very close to the restaurant and it was NOISY so trying to have a nice family dinner together was not possible. So for a quick business trip, conference where you are out of your room for business, then this would be ok. but for a nice little retreat hotel, I would recommend not being the hotel circle and traveling a bit further and staying aroudn the bay area, like Mission Bay Hotel or something comparable.

The Handlery is nice, older Hotel. It has a complete resort feel. However, when I went to my room a room service tray was outside the door. I left and went to dinner. The food was good but the service left much to be desired - apparently they are not used to many customers, the one waiter appeared to be displeased because he was not celebrating Cinco De Mayo.. he forgot to place my table's order and after 2 hours and 15 minutes and much discourse, we finally located someone to finalize the bill so we could return to our rooms. The tray was still outside the room. There was also another tray in the hallway. Next moring - same tray's were on the floor.
