"Disappointing"

Fri, May 17, 2013 Sacramento, California

There were 24 of us who booked together at this resort. We bought the all inclusive deal. The rooms varied greatly. Some rooms would have a dresser some would not. We were told that we could 'use the closet or the shelf for our clothes'. We had a coffee pot but never any coffee. We were there 5 days before we were given wash cloths and on only 2 occasions did we receive hand towels. You have to make reservations 24 hours ifor the restaurants in advance and you have to do it at 7:00 am only the day before. The 'all inclusive meals' were very small portions so some of us would try to order 2 meals, most of the time they would refuse us. There were 2 sides to the menus. One side was for the 'all inclusive' which had few items on it. The other side was filled with a menu of better entrees but you had to pay for them. If you wanted top shelf liquor you had to pay for it. All they offered was bar liquor to the all inclusive guests. Most of the time in the restaurants you would practically have to beg for water and the service was very slow. I would never book this resort again.

First time I write a review so here it goes.. I took the chance and booked this hotel despite the bad reviews it had. We're not picky travelers so I figured why not give it a shot. We booked the Grand Oasis side. Check in: No problem what so ever! We arrived around 6:30 pm which is after the check in time of 3pm. walked straight up to the desk, got our room keys and off we were. Not sure why so many people have had such a hard time checking in but for us it was a breeze. Grounds: Amazing! Best grounds I have seen. Very large, everything was very green, tropical, and clean! Pool was fabulous! Only thing is I wish they had service at the pool area. You either need to go to the swim up bar to get ur drinks or one of the many regular bars outside the pool. it was no big deal for us but would have been nice to have waiters going around the pool area. We had no problem finding lounge chairs by the pool. Plenty of them around the pool area. Beach: Loved it! We had such a great time there. waters were a lil rough there but maybe because it was kind of windy during our stay but it didn't bother us at all. No problem finding beach chairs in the afternoon either Food: It was good over all. We're not picky eaters so to us food was good. Cacoa (one of the many restaurants) was really delish and the 3 buffets had a lot of variety. Loved the Mimosas they served there! Only thing is that you did have to reserve one day prior on some of the restaurants which we did not mind at all. Alcohol Drinks: they could use a lil more alcohol in the drinks but all you needed to do was just ask and they served it right up! Nothing a lil tip won't take care off : ) Rooms: Were nice, decent and clean. Nothing over the top but for the little time we spent there, they were fine for us. Beds were actually comfortable and we had a pool/beach view. Overall we were very happy with the resort despite some of the ugly reviews we had read. We took a chance and lucky for us we had a fun time with no negative experiances. There is a lot to do there including entertainment, good bands, bars, and the nightly show at the main Pyramid is a do not miss! There is a mix crowd there, young adults, families, older folks and they all seemed like they were having a good time.I would definitely return!

I, like some of the others, obsessively checked TripAdvisor everyday for 3 weeks leading up to our trip to the Grand Oasis. I must say, I was very worried reading some of the reviews. But unlike others, we actually had a good time. We arrived at the resort around 2:00 and were checked in and inside our room within 20 minutes. Room is simple. No dressers to put your clothes in. We were on the top floor of one of the buildings which faced the lagoon. Great view w/ balcony. The AC was cold on the first day and after that, probably stayed around 75 degrees although we had it turned all the way down to 55 just to see if it would get cold. Needed an iron so I called the front desk for one and someone had brought it to our room within 10 minutes. The grounds and beach are beautiful here, with peacocks and iguanas roaming around, palm trees swaying, etc. It's a large resort with essentially two sides -- Grand Oasis (quiet side) and Oasis (party side). The club is located on the Oasis side and Im glad we chose to sleep on the Grand side. Didn't make reservations for any of the restaurants simply because I didnt feel like waking up at 7am to do so. We ate at the Marketplace Buffet most nights, and ate at the Sushi restaurant one night (not that great). Food was ok. Drinks were ok. Staff was friendly. Never had an issue. Overall it was a nice resort and had a fabulous time.

My sister and I stayed here may 10th-13th. This was our first time going to cancun. I was kind of nervous because of so many bad reviews I read here on tripadvisor. So here is my review. Check-in/room We arrived at 2pm on Friday thru best day travel. (They were great, $17 round trip per person) I heard many reviews of people waiting in line for hours just to check in. I was surprised to see on two couples in line. Check in was easy they gave us our cards and wristbands and had us go sit down with a staff member. He showed us the general layout of the resort on a map and gave us a discount card. This whole process happened in less than 10 minutes. The bellman grabbed our bags and led us to our room. We were in room 4542-s. This is in the building to the right of the pyramid. The room was nice, it had LED lighting above the beds and you could control the colors and have like a light show in your room. Pretty cool. The shower was all black tile with a glass wall. No rust like some people complained of. Only thing is there is no door so be careful not to shoot water all of the floor. The beds were nice and there are blankets in the closet, you will never need them. The A/C was on full blast and it was still hot in our room. I noticed there is a huge gap below the door going to the adjacent room. I stuffed a pillow under the door and we woke up freezing cold! The view from our room was the golf course and the lagoon. It was very nice and you can watch the sunset. Oh yeah, I was a little sad to see no mini fridge in our room when we came in. About 5 minutes later we got a knock on the door and bam there's the fridge! We had 2 Sol beers, a sprite a coke and about 10 water bottles. FOOD first night we ate at the market place buffet, it was just an average buffet. The next morning we at breakfast at tunkul it was another buffet, it was pretty good! We spent the rest of the day at xplor and had lunch there. (You must visit xplor!!!). We made dinner reservations at careyes for Saturday night. We sat down and looked at the menu. The left side of the menu you have to pay and the right side is part of the all-inclusive. We were not about to pay at an all inclusive restaurant lol. We were kind of intimidated by the menu because nothing looked good. We were actually standing up to leave and the waiter convinced us to stay and try it out. BEST DECISION EVER!!!! The food was amazing! I had the sirloin and my sister had the crab dish. I forgot what our appetizer was called but it was good. The dessert was also delicious. I was overly impressed with this place and I gave them a $20 tip. We also ate at the deli sports bar and the Italian restaurant I think it was called tatish? Pools/entertainment/beach Very night at 8pm there is a show in the main lobby. New only had a chance to catch one show. It was very impressive, kinda like cirque de solei. The kinky night club was fun and coyote loco was kinda lame, no one in there. The pools were clean and I enjoyed the swim up bars. I noticed a lot of people got angry the swim up bar closed at 630 so be aware. The beach was the highlight of the resort. Waters are so warm I couldn't believe it. Waves were fairly calm compared to Southern California. There was only a couple people trying to sell bracelets and glasses on the beach but they weren't pushy and kept walking is you said no thank you. Check out was easy as pie. PROS: Careyes restaurant The beach! The value!!!! I will definitely be returning here in the future. CONS: I honestly can't think of any which is crazy considering all these bad reviews.

Beautiful grounds at this resort! We were immediately whisked away to the VIP lounge for check-in, that was nice. Our room was ready. They sent us on our way. I would have preferred being shown to the room, but that's okay, we took our time getting there and getting lost a little on the way. Saw the peacock shortly after our arrival, one of our favorite things about this resort. Finally found our room, wow, what a view we had. What we didn't have however were any dressers to put our clothes that weren't on hangers. And there were only about 10 hangers in the room if that. I had most of my clothes that hang already on hangers but my sister didn't. Since we didn't have any drawer space, thought there would be 2 luggage racks. No, not the case. We went back to the VIP desk and asked for more hangers at least and she did send some up along with wash cloths. Another plus, very clean room, very comfortable beds. Nice tv. Our deck only had one chair on it, took a few days before they sent one up at my sister insistence. Bathroom is old and needs updating. If you have an HP computer, make sure you bring an adapter, there weren't any outlets for 3 prongs. This is the 2nd hotel in the last year that didn't have a 3 prong outlet. So beware. And you will have to pay for wifi as well. The safe was too small for laptop. I was able to fit the ipad in there however. There was a fee for that as well. You have to make your dining reservations ever day for dinner. Personally I think this is annoying. We kept forgetting. We did however manage to always get in one of their ala carte restaurants. We noticed long lines for the buffets at night.. crazy. It's a huge resort actually 2 resorts in one complex. We at Italian first night... it was okay, nice atmosphere. One of the few restaurants that is not indoors. We at at the Maria Bonita one night. This was okay, definitely not great. The soup was probably the best course, but it wasn't hot. Also ate at Careyes, this was ok. Nice restaurant, my food was not imressive. Our best meal was at the seafood restaurant, Cocoa Seafood. There were only a few other tables occupied when we were there and it was a 730 reservation. This was by far the best food and service we had in our 4 night stay. It was absolutely excellent! Would I go back? Probably not, although we did go check out their other properties and realized we would be much more suited to one of them if we were going to stay at their brand again.
