"Over priced..."

3.0/5

Sat, May 18, 2013 Vancouver, Canada

I recently stayed at the Palliser, while I like the Fairmont brand and have paid more per room at their resorts overseas, including Hawaii, the room I had for $549 a night was far from worth it. Small bathroom, bed that needed replacing, peeling paint on the ceiling and what was just a very basic room that was tired and needed some TLC. That said the staff are friendly and the online checkin and checkout works well. In addition the railway track was outside our room and you could hear the trains.

"Great Meeting & Hotel Room"

5.0/5

Thu, May 16, 2013 Toronto, Canada

I recently organized a meeting at the Fairmont in Calgary. The hotel went above and beyond to ensure myself and my clients were happy. I received nothing buy great reviews from my attendees and my client was impressed with the overall service. Kudos to the Catering and Banquet staff. I also stayed over at the hotel and was very happy with the size, look, and cleanliness of my room. I liked that it had lots of light and it felt very spacious.

"Not bad, but I would not stay there again"

The Good: -it was centrally located, right in the heart of downtown, within walking distance from the financial district and minutes away from the 8th ave where there are lots of restaurants, bars, shooping centres -the lobby was beautiful and elegant -the newly renovated room is great -you get free internet when you are a president club member The Bad: -i arrived at 10am in the morning and there was no one at the president club check in counter. there were two staff on the opposite side at the regular check in desk. they were not serving other customers. they saw me waiting and totally ignored me. i waited for about 3 minutes and there was still no one and those two staff continued to ignored me. i finally walked over -the staff gave me a cold greeting. the check in was fast. however, at the other fairmount, they usually give me a little folder with my name and room rates written, my keys, and an free show shine offer. nope, not at this fairmount. i only got the key -the bed is way too soft for me -the wi-fi connection can be slow at times, regardless you are using iphone or android. i guess the server is just not powerful enough to support too many connections The Horrible: -i have been to a few fairmount hotels and the cleaniness of the room is always bad -here at palliser, in my room: (1) there was a piece of paper left in the recycle bin (hint: think twice before you throw away paper with personal or confidential information at any fairmount hotel!!!) (2) there were hairs on the floor of the bathroom overall, it is not a bad hotel. but i think i can get a better experience at the le germain or the marriott across from the street hope this helps.

"Old World Charm and Character"

We did not stay here as we were staying with friends but we made the bar here our 'go to' place to relax, have a glass of wine and a snack and enjoy the calm atmosphere after walking around the city sightseeing and shopping. No visit to Calgary can be complete without at least one visit to the Palliser. A gem

"Classic Beauty"

4.0/5

Tue, May 7, 2013 Victoria, British Columbia

This hotel lives up to its billing . . . gracious, welcoming and relaxing. There is a "slow" computer in the lobby which is helpful if one does not carry all the latest toys yet wishes to deal with e-mail, etc. As there is no "ramp" facility at the hotel entrance, the guests either need to haul their own luggage, by hand, to the lobby area or enlist the assistance of a bell person. Parking is expensive and is valet only. The usual coffee/tea facility in guest rooms has been replaced with the Keurig single serving machine which is ideal and produces good coffee which is actually hot! The dining room service in the Rimrock Dining Room was attentive and the food lived up to expectations as did the ambience. We were celebrating a special wedding anniversary and were treated as though this was the first 50th celebration ever held in the hotel. If a spa/massage treatment is on your list it would be wise to book ahead. We were unable to experience a much anticipated couples massage.
