"Was told one rate but there were hidden cost at checkout."

Overall I was happy with the hotel until I had to check out. At that point the bill had hidden cost that I was not informed about at check in. My wife joined me later in the week I there was a $10 upcharge per night. I choose to upgrade and when I checked out there were cost I was not told about. At 4am in the morning I was the only guest checking out and it took approx. 30 mins. Ofcourse I could not argue about the additional cost because I was going to be late for my flight.

Since our last visit, the Cariari has overhauled the reception area to include comfy guest seating, a computer nook, and a coffee shop called the Deck Cafe. The lovely central pond has been enhanced with deck seating and a large screen tv viewing area. The bi-lingual hotel staff goes above and beyond to tend to the comfort of their guests - and our favorite is a gentleman in the coffee shop named Jose Luis. It would be an injustice to call the morning smorgasbord a simple breakfast bar; the variety and selection are mouthwatering and the presentation is a visual delight. We also appreciate that the Doubletree will take advance payment on the exit tax so you have one less line to endure at the airport!

If you're looking for a hotel near the airport in SJO... Holiday Inn Express. I know, I know, you have an idea of what Holiday Inn Express is... maybe that is below your standards... but I am telling you it is a MUCH better experience for the same or less price. Please don't book this hotel (the doubletree) for airport stays. We booked this hotel for two reasons: consistency & reliability. When you are in a foreign country dealing with incoming or outgoing flights you need to know you'll be taken care of. Never were we told the shuttle was not free. We were told the computers in the lobby had free internet. Not so. And the internet (per device!!) is $10/day. The restaurant/bar prices are completely uncalled for. This is SJO airport area guys, not a resort town. So if you want to charge this much for your food/bev you best have an excellent product... and needless to say, you did not. You "upgraded" us to an awkward "junior suite" that basically had a desk and a view of the parking lot. Would have been much better off sticking with what we reserved instead. Overall, totally disappointed. Not worth the money in any way. The only bright side was our server in the "VIP" lounge who made us smile and welcomed us with a true Pura Vida smile...

This hotel is only ten minutes away from the San Jose airport, so was perfect for our overnight stay before joining our National Geographic tour group. We were welcomed at the desk with our key and a huge, still warm chocolate chip cookie. Room was spacious and clean. Dinner and breakfast were good.

This Hotel looks nice, but expect AC not working, and no one cares. I was waiting for the technician for 2 hours, and then they swiped filters from another room. AC Filters are so dirty... It's disgusting. Guy left so much garbage after he switched the filter. We had to find a broom and clean the floor. Called the manager, never received call back. Room full with mosquitoes. Food is nothing but expensive. I've paid for 4*, but got 2* service. And the AC still not working :-(
