"A Pleasant Suprise"

5.0/5

Fri, May 17, 2013 Boston, Massachusetts

On my recent Trip out to LA we switched accommodations to get closer to Hollywood. This location is perfect. It's right near Sunset Strip, but it is still secluded. The roof top pool has a great view of the mountains. The rooms are fantastic. HUGE! I was very very impressed for the price we paid. It seems like Chamberlain is priced very strategically between very expensive accommodation and less fancy accommodations. I did not think we would be getting a room even close to the size that we ended up in- the room had two TVs, a balcony, an elevated bedroom area, separated toilet and shower from vanity and sink, ample closet space, and all the amenities you could wish for (full mini fridge, bathrobes, iPhone dock, excess hangers, and upscale toiletries). I wish we were able to stay longer. I could have enjoyed this place for an extended amount of time and will absolutely return and recommend it to all my west coast traveling friends!

We stayed at this beautiful boutique hotel at the end of June 2012 for five days in a suite. It was great having a fireplace that I turned on every evening to take the chill off. It was very spacious with a beautiful marble bathroom, a large bedroom and a balcony. We were just steps from Santa Monica Blvd, Starbucks and Trader Joes. They had a shuttle service that went to Rodeo Drive and the Walk Of Fame. Universal Studios was a short cab ride away. The staff were very friendly and the area was very safe even to go out at night. Being a dog lover I have never seen so many dogs in one place! I hope to return soon.

"Nice stay in cozy neighborhood"

Got a great deal on a 1 bedroom suite for a weekend stay. The suite is EXTREMELY SPACIOUS. While there were no true views of the neighborhood, you are in the HEART of West Hollywood (I would suggest you do your research of Weho before booking a hotel in the area) and it's wonderful! Close to Beverly Hills, there are plenty of shopping and dining options within a couple of miles and even walking distance. The pool (while on the rooftop) is quaint and there is no elaborate bar or restaurant BUT the food and service are GREAT. The bathrooms are very modern and spacious. Kitchenette is super convenient and the only thing that might throw you off is the carpeting throughout the entire suite. The fireplace sets the mood and give the suite a cozy feel and almost makes you forget all the action you can get in right outside the hotel doors! In other words, Chamberlain West Hollywood is the epidemy of a fantastic boutique hotel.

"Good, but will I go back? I don't know..."

As others have said, I really wanted to like the Chamberlain. I truly did. I have attended several events on the rooftop patio deck and loved the experience. The view, the service, the food and drink all have been exceptional. The patio on the roof is an EXCELLENT place to host a celebration. There's no better place in LA. As a place to stay??? I'm not so sure, especially given the costs and minor frustrations. Overall, the hotel is okay, probably good, but there are little annoyances around the edge that keep the experience from being what I believe the Chamberlain actually wants it to be. The rooms are very nice. Plenty of storage space (at least in the suite I occupied). The fireplace is a wonderful amenity (had I stayed in the winter). The bed was extremely comfortable; it was the best sleep I've ever had in a hotel. The AC units in the walls are a bit old-tech, but they kept the suite very comfortable, and the white noise helped me to sleep. There was NO street noise, however; the hotel is in a quite residential neighborhood. My concerns about the room? First, there was NOTHING in the room -- no book, folder or binder -- that provided hotel details. I had no idea about hotel benefits, services, when the restaurant was open, etc. There were, however, plenty of little signs that informed me of the cost of various hospitality items, the water bottle, the bath amenities (should I want to take them with me), etc. This seemed a bit over-the-top. I wondered if I had missed a sign about the coffee maker. (No charge. But, it's 2013: couldn't the hotel provide little cups of half-and-half as opposed to fake powdered "creamer"?) For me, the killer was the desk chair. It was quite stylish but COMPLETELY impossible to sit in comfortably and get any work done. I had a half-day's work to do in the hotel and I was forced to sit on the couch with my computer in my lap. Not good! I asked the front desk if another chair could be provided, but all I got was a shrug and a "sorry." Also, the wireless service was extremely slow at times and absolutely non-existent in the bedroom. (I had hoped to listen to Pandora in bed but it was not to be.) The front desk is the slowest, most ineffective team at the hotel, and completely without personality. No eye-contact. No "welcome to the Chamberlain." When I checked in, my room wasn't ready. That was not a problem, however, as we were a bit early arriving. The front desk associate took my phone number and said she'd call when my room would be ready. We were told it would be about 30 minutes. More than an hour later, we had heard nothing. We went back to the front desk and checked in. No apology for not calling. Nothing. Don't offer to call if you're not going to follow-up. Later that evening asked for change for a $10 bill (so I'd have cash for a tip for the maid). The front desk had NO change. In a hotel? No cash? When we checked out on Saturday, there was one poor soul working the front desk, trying to check out three or four of us while the phone was ringing constantly in the background. The Bistro? Good food, well-served though at slightly higher prices than I expected. ($70 for lunch: burger, salads, an appetizer and soft drinks! I guess that explains why the place was empty most of the time.) The service staff are wonderful. Helpful and attendant without being obnoxious. I felt quite well served. My only complaint? Another case of no change in the till. How can you not have an adequate supply of cash in a hotel? So the lack of information, the uncomfortable desk furniture, the slow wireless, the front-desk farce and a relatively cash-less operation kept me from departing the Chamberlain thinking "Wow, I can't wait to stay here again." I'm just not sure. Oh, and it's $36/night for parking. $36?!?!?!!!! That seems just a bit excessive.

"Over Priced Fresh Painted Apt Complex, Felt violated, No service, Decent Location but not great."

Not worth the money they are asking. First the bell hop was rude and unorganized. Room was not ready with reservation. Waited 15min...They're computers "were down" even though two other people checked in before us at another counter. We were called down from the room and told card wasnt working (something wrong wtih their computers and my bank) comped with drink tickets? not enough. We were called down to get our own bags (which is not a problem, but what is the bell hop for?) Told at front desk that because I paid with cash the mini bar would be cleared. They decide to wait til we leave , enter our room with privacy/Do Not Disturb placard on the door and cleared it. NO CALL OR WARNING. We had a large amount of $, electronics, and photo equipment mind you. So we packed up and decided to leave even if we couldn't get a refund only being there 2 hrs. Manager on duty even said it was unacceptable that housekeeping came in with the tag on the door. Talked to a few other guests that were asking if we were happy with our stay. We all looked a little uncomfortable in this old apartment complex made up with fresh paint and designer linens for the $ we were paying. Felt violated, No service, Decent Location but not great. Employees were like zombies and had no clue when asked a simple question. Go ELSEWHERE! There are literally 4 or 5 other hotels within walking distance right on main strip for same price and better service.
