"Badly maintained and poor customer service"

My husband and I stayed in the Americas Best Value Inn, Kansas City. We chose it as we were arriving in Kansas City late by Greyhound and we could get a bus to the door. It is also a good location to downtown and besides, until this stay, we have stayed in several Americas Best Value Inns with no issues. The air con was so loud that we had to turn it off and open the window. Our room was Non-smoking, but the room adjacent to ours was Smoking and periodically we could smell the smoke of the adjacent room. Obviously they had their window open too, Maintenance in this place is very poor. The bath tap leaked, the sink had a blocked drain and took some minutes to clear every time we used it. The room carpet all around the edges was dirty and it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for many months. My husband gave up on using the internet from the room after frequent phone calls to Reception. He had to sit in the Breakfast Room to use the laptop and even then it was patchy. The system is old and antiquated and not maintained. Breakfast The biscuits were like rocks and the pastries were very stale. The orange juice was warm because it wasn’t kept cold. My husband told the Manager about the internet in particular, but he denied anything was wrong and walked away. This is not how you treat guests staying at your hotel.

Ok...so it's not the Ritz Carlton, but after reading these reviews, I was starting to regret my decision to stay. I made our reservations through Priceline, and had NO problems at check-in. The couple working were very friendly to us. Maybe these other people that said they were unfriendly were not friendly to them. Treat others as you would like to be treated! The room wasn't THAT bad. I have stayed in nicer, but we usually stay FREE at one of the casino's, so it's not fair to compare them. It suited our needs just fine. It was clean, we had no problems w/water pressure in the bathroom. And it was clean also. The bed & pillows were also fine. We were there to celebrate my daughters & her fiances bachelor/bachelorette party at Ernie Biggs Piano Bar in Westport.We wanted a hotel close by so we didn't have far to drive after a night of drinking (we did have a sober driver, btw!) This was perfect...just a few blocks! I would stay again...location & price was right!

This is the first place i stayed at where I thought it was necessary to take photos. THAT is how bad this place is. If you look at any photos on their site you will see any that look like these I am posting. No fridge, no coffee maker, no nice looking table lamp, tv channels bad, bed bad, pubic hair in the dingy shower, I really felt like this is a place you'd rent by the week in a bad 70's tv show....which someone pointed out is better than thinking it's a place you rent by the hour. The ONLY upside the chinese place that shares the parking lot had a fantastic meal. Don't try it.

Terrible neighborhood. Customer service was less than warm, almost rude & demeaning upon check-in. The hotel was well worn in & had an overall smell of must. Repairs are needed throughout the entire building. Room had hard beds and overused bedding with small holes & rips in the sheets. The coffee was already torn open, toilet seat left up with tissue in the bowl, dirty walls, broken ironing board & where the peep-hole should be was an open hole so that just anyone could see into our room. Fortunately we were offered a refund minus a possible $5 charge for turning down the sheets to check the bedding. I don't usually like to complain and probably wouldn't have if at any time we were served with a smile or more personable staff. I've stayed in nicer hotels on a budget in third world countries. I'd recommend paying an extra $30 & staying in a hotel chain of the Marriot just a couple blocks away.

We had booked this place through expedia. When we arrived at the hotel we were told that we had no reservation and that expedia had not passed through the payment to them for our room? Luckily we had our laptop and as there was wifi there (one of the good aspects to the place) we could look up the email confirming the payment. After doing this there was no more said about this???very strange.The lady on checkin was very unwelcoming, rude and unfriendly. The place had a really depressing, dingy and horrid feel. The hotel is in a very bad neighbourhood, and we felt very uneasy walking around. The matress on the bed had definitely seen better days and there were cigaratte burns in the matress cover..despite it being a non smoking room. On a good note the bathroom was ok and fairly clean and there was free internet.Suprisingly the hotel was very quiet as well, so sleep wasn't too bad. Breakfast ok...but nothing to write home about. The biscuits were pretty horrid though. We had checked about leaving our bags for the day previously, but on the day we checked out we were told (again by the very rude lady) they had to just be kept in the lobby. Given that there was often not anyone there, and people had been wandering in and out from the street, we were really unsure about this. It turned out ok, but i would NEVER stay here again and suggest you don't either.
