One of Egypt's most popular tourist destinations, Luxor has plenty of options for types of accommodations. Shoestring travelers will appreciate the smaller inns, while those with a bigger budget will enjoy five-star luxury hotels. Of course, there are plenty of mid-range hotels in Luxor as well. While some hotels offer steady rates year-round, other hotels can as much as double their rates during the high season of winter when the weather is mild.
Most Luxor hotels are located on the East Bank, which is convenient to shopping and restaurants, as well as attractions like the Luxor Temple and the Temple of Karnak. If you prefer to be closer to the tombs and the Valley of the Kings, consider staying on the West Bank. Luxor hotels aren't as numerous on the West Bank, but the area is more laid-back and might better fit the style of some travelers.
Ancient and Modern Adventures
If you enjoy walking, a trek from the Valley of the Queens through the desert and over the cliffs to the Valley of the Kings is an excellent way to spend a day while staying at Luxor hotels. Other fun options include renting a bicycle and pedaling around Ancient Thebes, or taking a tour of the East Bank in a type of horse-drawn carriage known as a calèche.
