Discover the Dominican Republic
Located on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata is a historic city with a laid-back Caribbean vibe. Founded in 1502 at the site of a natural harbor, the town rises up on verdant green hills from the port below. Most Puerto Plata hotels are found east of town in a resort area known as the Playa Dorada.
Many resorts in Puerto Plata are all-inclusives, meaning that meals, drinks, and a wide variety of activities are included in the price of the room. The beaches in front of these hotels on Playa Dorada have a fun, party atmosphere and offer water sports galore. Some of the smaller, older resorts are great places to find Puerto Plata cheap hotels.
Activities on Land and Sea
Most of the hotels in Puerto Plata can arrange city tours that include a visit to the 16th century San Felipe Fort, walks through the Victorian-era wooden buildings of downtown, and a visit to aquarium at Ocean World. Make sure to leave time for shopping, especially for amber, one of the country’s most famous exports. If you prefer to hit the town at night, you can experience some of the celebrated Dominican Republic nightlife in the dance clubs and bars that hop until the wee hours of the morning.
