South America’s largest country is also one of its most diverse, with gleaming metropolises, immense rainforests, ancient ruins, and endless opportunities to explore.
Rio de Janeiro: The birthplace of Carnival is a carousel of attractions ranging from the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana to cultural marvels like the Christ the Redeemer statue.
São Paulo: Brazil’s largest city may be a business epicenter, but it’s hardly all work and no play. Museums, fashion expos, and sporting events lend plenty of flavor to this chic metro giant. Bahia: The sun shines almost daily on Bahia’s beautiful Atlantic Ocean beaches, while its capital, Salvador, is filled with African-influenced music, food, and entertainment.
Brasilia: Named Brazil’s capital city in 1960, Brasilia is best known for ambitious architecture including the Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge and the Cathedral of Brasília.
Belo Horizonte: A favorite city among artists and poets, Belo Horizonte (“Beautiful Horizon”) offers some of the most inspiring music, dance, and theater performances in Brazil.
Manaus: The jungle lodges of Manaus make it a popular destination for travelers heading to the Amazon rainforest. It’s also home to the largest motorcycle factory in South America.
Dance the tango while sipping wine in cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, hike to the thundering Iguazu Falls in the tropical jungle, or dip down into Patagonia to meet some penguins.
Massive steaks, unspoiled beaches, and a hip, thriving nightlife make Uruguay a go-to spot for South American vacationers and North American adventurers.
This land-locked gem makes up for a lack of beaches with a huge variety of everything else, including waterfalls and rivers, subtropical rainforests, rural villages, and complex modern cities.
From the bone-dry Atacama Desert to the sun-soaked beaches of Viña del Mar, and from the mythology-rich islands of Chiloe to urban Santiago, Chile is worth exploring from tip to tip.
Shop for alpaca-wool ponchos in Arequipa, eat ceviche in Lima, explore the mist-shrouded ruins of Machu Picchu, or charter a boat out to the islands that dot impossibly-blue Lake Titicaca.
From the tropical Amazon to icy Patagonia, South America is full of extraordinary contrasts, vibrant cultures and natural wonders you won’t find anywhere else. Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil and Colombia… LAN knows these aren’t just places on a map–they’re journeys that will inspire you to breathe a little deeper, see things a bit more colorfully, and consider each new day an adventure.
