The Roaming Gnome’s Trip to Aspen
Hello, chaps! I got back from Aspen a few weeks ago, and I’m still flying high on the smashing memories of a terrific trip. Honestly, I could have stayed in my super room at the Sky Hotel for the entire time, but Aspen is there to be enjoyed, and enjoy it I did!
I yodeled with ski legend and inventor Klaus Obermeyer, drove a Snowcat on Aspen Mountain, and did a little snowboarding (or snow CRASHING) at Aspen Highlands. I went to see the wonderful kids at Aspen Middle School, visited Snowmass Mountain for Big Air Friday, and took the stage with a Johnny Cash cover band named Cash’d Out at Belly Up Aspen. I dined on sushi at Kenichi, did the famous Shot Ski at La Cantina, and had fantastic dinners at both Ajax Tavern and Elevation. The folks at 39 Degrees—the swanky lounge in the Sky Hotel—created a cocktail just for me called the Cabin Fever Cure, and I spent a large chunk of time at the Woody Creek Tavern and Aspen Brewing Company too. Oh gracious, and then there was the brunch at The Little Nell and the late-night slice at New York Pizza. My belt is feeling JUST a little snug. But all that fresh Colorado air makes a chap work up an appetite!
Many thanks to Melissa Rhines of Aspen Skiing Company for showing me around the glorious town of Aspen. Have a peek at my vacation snaps below!
“Excuse me! Stop! Wait! I’m right here! Hello? Hello? Can you see me?”
Me with Klaus Obermeyer. As you can see, I was a little ober-whelmed with emotion.
It’s a little-known fact that Gnomes love sushi. This is me at Kenichi.
The kiddies at Aspen Middle School went out of their way to make me feel at home. It’s like I always say: a pointy red hat looks good on everyone.
“Hey, stranger, can I buy you a drink?”
I took the stage at Belly Up Aspen with the Johnny Cash cover band Cash’d Out. Yes, it’s true: I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die. (Not really! Not really, chaps! It’s a joke!)
Experts only? Well, that sounds like me.
My goodness, dog! Buy a Gnome some dinner first!
Brunch at Little Nell. Come to papa, bacon. Come to papa.
Many thanks to Melissa Rhines of Aspen Skiing Company for showing me around!
My name: The Travelocity Roaming Gnome
How I earn my keep: I roam the world finding great deals, upholding the Travelocity Guarantee, and looking rather handsome while doing it.
What kind of traveler I am: A small and perfectly-formed one.
Greatest travel lesson learned: Just because you can climb into the overhead baggage compartment and stay there for the rest of the flight, doesn’t mean you should.
Travel ambition: To never again miss my plane because I’ve stopped to take a photo with a fellow traveler who’s spotted me. Ah, it’s tough work being a charmingly lovable travel mascot, I’ll tell you that.
First thing I do in a new place: Make friends.
When I’m not traveling: I’m browsing the SkyMall catalogue, toasting crumpets, testing beard conditioners, and planning my next trip.
