Sara Fried is the Travelocity market manager for Turks & Caicos. She has been with Travelocity for seven years and is currently based in Boston, MA. She enjoys sailing, snorkeling, great food and spending time with good friends (especially on the beach). Her favorite part of the job is exploring her destinations and all of the great discounts on hotels! Dear, oh, dear. I can’t stop thinking about conch! Conch salad! Conch fritters! Cracked conch! Conch soup! Conch chowder! Just talking to Sara Fried, Travelocity’s expert on The Bahamas, has stirred up quite the appetite.

You know, they say that one of the best ways to experience a destination is through its food, and Sara tells me that conch is the must-try local dish on Nassau/Paradise Island in The Bahamas. This lady sure does know her way to a Gnome’s heart!

Reno Luxury For Way Less Than You’d Think

I’m not sure what you think of when you think of hotels in Reno, but I think of noisy casinos, rowdy bars, and rooms that have probably seen better days. What I don’t think of—or, should I say, didn’t think of until I stayed at the newly renovated Atlantis Casino Resort & Spa recently—is sleek design, top-notch dining options, and a spa that rivals any I’ve ever been to in my life. And I’ve got a soft spot for spas.

Open since 1972, the Atlantis has recently undergone a stunning transformation that’s led to an impeccable new concierge floor featuring rooms that would make the W Hotel proud.

Pigs Don’t Fly, They Swim

You know that saying “when pigs fly?” As in, “oh sure, you’ll get that 10% raise—when pigs fly!” or “Brad Pitt? Yeah, he’s totally coming over to my house later to eat hot fudge sundaes.  When pigs fly.”

Well, I’m here to tell you, friends: pigs don’t fly. They swim.

On my recent trip to the Bahamas, I had the great pleasure of boating through the Exuma Cays. We dropped anchor at quite a few of the 365 cays–”one for every day of the year,” said our boat guide Pat with a broad grin–but the one that stands out most in my mind was the one where I swam with a posse of pigs. Yes, I said a posse of pigs. I’ll say it again: I swam with a posse of pigs.
