Ask a Puerto Vallarta Expert: Meet Rafael Arroyo, Travelocity’s Pacific Mexico Market Manager

Editor’s Note: Periodically, we’ll be featuring a Q&A with our resident destination experts at Travelocity, the Travelocity market managers. Market managers are locals to their destination and experts on everything and anything related to tourism in their markets. Please welcome them to The Window Seat.

Rafael Arroyo is the Travelocity market manager for Pacific Mexico. He has been with Travelocity for five years and has the pleasure of negotiating deals in great destinations like Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos. He is always looking to discover new places to enjoy the best local cuisine and has been known to coordinate his business trips around a gourmet festival!

TWS: If you had to pick just one thing that makes Puerto Vallarta special, what is it and why?
RA
: Variety! Puerto Vallarta truly offers something for everyone. From honeymooners looking for a romantic getaway, family activities, golf, nightlife, first-class resorts and arguably the most diverse dining scene of all beach destinations,  “Vallarta” as is locally known is sure to please the most demanding traveler.

TWS: What’s the best time of year to visit Puerto Vallarta to get a deal? Pros and cons of visiting at that time of year?
RA: October and November are considered shoulder season. Summer and rainy season are over, weather is mild with little chance of rain and best of all hotels offer some of the lowest rates of the year.

TWS: What’s the secret to getting a hotel deals in your Puerto Vallarta?
RA: One sure option to save is buying a vacation package including air and hotel where clients will find the lowest rates available. In addition most hotels offer upgrades to higher categories with upgraded amenities for a reasonable price.

TWS: Tell us your number-one favorite restaurant in Puerto Vallarta and what menu item a visitor has to try.
RA: El Arrayan offers some of the best Mexican food in a destination full of great eats!  Duck Carnitas and Plantain Empanadas are just a couple of amazing dishes that you will find at this local spot.

TWS: What’s the most common misconception about Puerto Vallarta?
RA: People often wonder if it’s safe. Puerto Vallarta was named a few years back the friendliest city in the world! Puerto Vallarta is in some respects a “small” laid-back destination that offers all the charm of Mexico combined with first class resorts and is definitely one of the safest cities you will ever visit.

TWS: Do you know the Roaming Gnome personally? What is his favorite thing about your Puerto Vallarta?
RA: Yes, of course and the roaming gnome had a chance to swim with the dolphins and take a zip line tour! I am sure he will be back soon!

TWS: How much time should a visitor allocate to properly see Puerto Vallarta?
RA: At least four nights to have a chance to experience a little bit of the many things this destination has to offer. From a world class spa, fishing, great golf or one of the many festivals taking place throughout the year (Gourmet, tequila, Wine, etc)
