Old hotel....

Pros: Centrally located.
Cons: More Power Outlets, Shelving units for clothes
Location: 1 mile to everything in West Hollywood
Room had two awkward Power Outlets, I had to ask for extension cords which were provided. As I was staying for four days. there was not enough space to store clothes, front desk did not have bureau or shelves to help. Remote was not able to Power on/off TV. Front desk was told but never resolved. Front Desk explained building has central Heating/AIR Conditioning. Which meant there were nights I wanted cool but only Hot air was allowed.

Sunset Strip's finest

Wonderful hotel with excellent spacious rooms, fantastic staff and great atmosphere. If aesthetics and vibe matter to you, it doesn't get much better than this. As far as the basics go, the rooms are beautiful and clean. Our room overlooked the Sunset Strip and our balcony door stayed open the whole time because the view of the hills is so beautiful. Nothing but good things to say about The Standard Hollywood.

The Sub-Standard

This hotel basically stinks. It was once a dreary motel and the rooms are depressing. My dorm room had more style than this place and was more timeless in design. It did remind me of my dorm room in the lack of comfort and space everywhere you look. There isn't really a closet -- just an opening where the mini-bar hogs most of the space, leaving enough room for a couple of items on hangers. There is literally no place to put one's luggage outside of the floor. I'd rate it highly if it was a youth hostel, but those are a significantly greater value than the "Sub-Standard."

Would Never Recommend Standard Hotel in Hollywood

I've stayed at the Standard Hotel in NY many times and it's amazing. Sadly, the original Standard Hotel in Hollywood is a complete joke. I was embarrassed to stay there. It was all style, and no substance. There is a reason the lights are kept low. It was like a Motel 6 with lipstick.

This hotel is a hipster hangout but remains welcoming.

We checked in early and the front desk person worked very hard and was able to accommodate us. The staff was very friendly and the rooms are chic 70s/mid-50s minimal but clean and comfortable. The location is excellent and the bar/pool area is nice if you don't mind a bunch of "posers" hanging around waiting for someone famous to stop by and you can get service.

Great Location

Pros: location
It's all about location with this hotel. The hotel room is very basic, one chair and the bed, and some soap by the sink and that's about it. It's very clean and the pool is cool, and the location is great. It's a very good value for being on sunset strip.

One compliant....

I loved the area of this hotel, I loved the modernization of the room. I had a great time at the Purple lounge, the manager offered a great deal on table service for my friends and I. However, when I made it up to my room when the lounge closed around 2 in the morning, right away security knocked on my door saying that people were complaining that my room was too loud. I was like really?? We just got in... and we were not even close to being loud. I felt really bummed that I was threatened to be escorted out if there was another complaint, when my two friends and I weren't even close to being obnoxious...

Not nearly what I expected

I have to say bring some air freshener with you because the room has an aweful order when you first walk into the room. The bed is completely uncomfortable and makes all kinds of noise every time you move. The shower has no water pressure unless its on full on hot. It really needs an update and/or remodel. The blower for the AC has to run wide open because there is no temperature control. It sounds like the fan in the bathroom is on all the time. However the staff was very friendly and mostly competent. The room service is great and very fast.
