"Good but could be better..."
Overall our experience was good. Let me start with the negatives. After an hour of being in our room we developed a leak over the Jacuzzi and from the air conditioning system. We called the front desk and it took forever for someone to come check it out. Even after someone came the leaks still continued all weekend long. We never got to use the Jacuzzi and that was disappointing. The hotel needs maintenance and a lot of old pipes need to be fixed (hence all the leaks). If you go to the privileged side (which we did when they tried to get us to purchase their version of a time share) You will see that it is beautiful and very well maintained. It’s sad that they don’t put as much effort and money into the regular side as they do the privileged, more people would be happier when they left. The 24 hour snack bar wasn’t good they had French fries and chicken in the oven that wasn’t fresh. The casino is dated and a lot of the machines weren’t working, but we did manage to win $50 so that was a plus. Now to the positives we were greeted by all the staff upon arrival and got our “welcome drink” (which was delicious) We met a nice man by the name of Alejandro (he is truly one of the nicest people I have ever met) He told us everything we needed to know upon arrival and assured us if we needed anything to let him know (and we did and he was more than happy to help). The rest of the staff were equally as nice from the maintenance people, maids, bartenders, entertainers etc. The buffets were good for breakfast and lunch. The Japanese restaurant was okay (not what we expected), The steakhouse was amazing as well as the Italian restaurant (my favorites) and the drinks were good too. The pool area was great (but the chairs are old) it was clean and well taken care of and the swim up bar was awesome! The entertainment was great, they really worked hard to keep everyone entertained and happy. The disco was fun but they played the same music every night and by the last night I knew the routines. We met Jacqueline for breakfast to go over the whole time share plan and her partner Fernando (later on) who showed us the privileged side in regards to their version of a time share. What I loved about them was that they weren’t pushy and didn’t try to sell something that wasn’t realistic they tried to work with us but we just weren’t ready to make a commitment. Maybe next time because we definitely plan on returning BUT staying on the privileged side now that we know it is the better side. I would like to Thank everyone who tried and made our stay one to remember.

"Quiet getaway great for couples, not for groups"
Ambar is a great romantic getaway for couples who want to stay somewhere quiet, low key, and romantic.  All of the restaurants require men to wear slacks or long pants which we thought was a bit much for a resort on the beach.  The food options were okay and top shelf liquor is not available at all of the bars throughout the resort so be prepared, especially if you venture out to one of the neighboring Bahia resorts. We had a total of 12 people in our party - mainly couples and had a horrible experience at Don Pablo, the highest rated restaurant at the resort. We made reservations in advance with guest services and they assured us that the restaurant will be able to accommodate our very large 12 person party.  When we arrived at Don Pablo however, we were informed that only 10 people can dine and they weren't helpful at all in trying to accommodate us or getting the issue resolved until we contacted the manager of the hotel.  The staff there was very rude and not helpful at all making the entire dining experience sub par.  We did however enjoy the staff and our experience at the Italian restaurant the next night. Overall would stay here again if we got another great deal, otherwise I'll be looking elsewhere for my next stay.

"Felt like Paradise!"
My spouse and I needed a kid free getaway to unwind and relax. We are totally satisfied with our decision to stay at the Paridisus Palma Real, and will definitely consider staying there again. Our stay exceeded our expectations. Bolivar Guzman our concierge was very pleasant, helpful and accommodating....he's the best. Isabel and the other masseuse (sorry we forgot her name) did wonders for us at the Yhi spa. The room was spacious, clean and well designed. The food at the buffet was excellent, and was actually better than the food at we had at the resort restaurants. I guess because it is all inclusive the menu selection at the restaurants are limited. We enjoyed the variety and quality of food for breakfast and lunch, and looked forward to those meals everday. The staff overall was very friendly and attentive. Our mini bar in the room was restocked daily. It took us one day to find our drink of choice which was the Rum Punch....best drink ever....we had it daily for lunch and dinner. The night events were very entertaining, especially the Michael Jackson night. The casino is small but was adequate for the amount of guests on site. Roulette became my favorite game. So obviously like most resorts they have a vacation club. So we were convinced to go to a meeting to hear about the vacation club. They were a little misleading, by telling us that they don't sell anything it is purely informational, and will only last up to 90 minutes. Well our sales advisor was Abraham, he was very nice, down to earth and informative. He took us to see the members only facilities/services. The breakfast and presentation lasted about 3 hours, we were so exhausted afterwards and had to go back to our room to take a nap. In the end we did not go on vacation to be prepared to join a vacation club that will cost upwards of $20-$30K. We still appreciated the Spa discount, which took $100 off of our spa cost and the casino credits. The other coupons/credits we didn't use (i.e. room upgrade and wine). We also got a voucher to eat at the Gabi Beach restaurant, which we expected to be great since it is not part of the inclusive package......we would have preferred eating at the buffet....it was not all that. So all in all, it was a great experience, we love the resort, and will definitely stay again if we go to Punta Cana, and would also consider other Melia hotels at other locations.

"Huge & Kid Friendly!"
We just got back from a week long vacation from this resort with two children ages 2 and 1. We had fun! A couple of things you need to know about traveling to Punta Cana: 1. There is a $10 per person visitor's fee when you enter the country and arrive at the airport. We paid $40 in cash for two adults, one toddler and one infant. 2. We were worried about the weather because all week, it was supposed to rain. Instead, it was so sunny, humid, had 100 degree weather in the last week of October, and the kids and I had a tan that just got dark daily. I'm not sure what the weather is like in the summer, but it was TOOO hot & humid for us... BUT perfect beach/pool weather! Yes, it rained twice (but only in the evening). I bring up the weather because we were so close to canceling the trip because of the weather forecast and decided against it. So glad we decided to go! I have a lot to say about the resort itself, but I'll limit it to what I think I'd want to know about this resort. 1. Front Desk/Customer Service: Exceptional! - Front desk upgraded us to a "Luxury Room" so we wound up closer to the beach. It was wonderful. - We needed a crib/playpen but none were available for two nights, per the front desk. However, our "maid" who cleaned rooms brought it to us. She initiated it by noticing our baby and asking if we needed a crib and brought to us within 5 min. - We celebrated my daughter's first birthday at the Italian restaurant (which by the way they had no more availability for reservations but were able to squeeze us in). They made a big deal of my daughter's birthday that night and came out singing with a birthday cake. They made her day special. 2. Rooms: Beautiful with a bit of a problem. - Safes are in the room, but you must pay a fee per day. - Beds are too soft if you ask me. - The rooms were spacious with a beautiful bathroom, 2 queen size beds, and air conditioning / ceiling fan worked perfectly. - Disney Jr is available and kept my daughters busy before nap time. Obviously, it's all in Spanish but they're too young to know the difference. So this was a plus. (Channel 89, I still remember :) - If I were you, you would need to know about their two cons: a) their bug problem and b) refrigerator issues. Regarding the former issue, we had to move to another room because we found a few ants My daughters and I had a few bug bites, nothing too bad.. just a couple here/there. If you are scared of bugs, YOU NEED TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. Why? When we moved to another room, there were still ants BUT also found mosquitos everywhere! not fun! Regarding the latter issue, my baby needs to drink her milk throughout the day. So having a refrigerator that works is very important. Although they switched refrigerators altogether, none of the two refrigerators worked! 3. Resort Overview: Beautiful! -It's not a regular hotel like any that my husband and I have traveled to. Usually all inclusive resorts are just 1-3 buildings with all hotel rooms and they have adjacent buildings for restaurants/bars etc. At this resort, there were maybe 30 buildings, each have about 6-10 hotel rooms (very much like a small apartment building). I think this is what allowed the bugs to come into the rooms. There were also balconies... most hotel rooms & buildings are so far away from the ocean so that you can't really have oceanview unless you're in the "Esmeralda" hotel. I'm not sure what qualifies you to get into those specific rooms but I'm sure it has a price tag or is associated with their "privilege club" (aka timeshare folks). - It's HUGE! The resort includes at least 3 pools that we noticed (all different depths to each one), and a 4th pool was a "water park" for toddlers/kids. It also has a playground and miniature golfing. The ocean is on one side of the resort. The other side has the "Scout's water park". In between are all the hotel rooms/buildings/restaurants. Getting from one end to the other wasn't so bad with kids. We brought our double stroller so we wound up walking a lot with them. However, if you cannot physically walk too much, they have trolleys that run every 10 min or so and it circulates all around the resort (very convenient)! 4. Food was okay. - Buffet was good I guess. It had something for everyone. I'm glad my picky kids always had options. I, for one, am a breakfast person. So I wasn't excited for lunch/dinner meals here. - Restaurants: we only wound up going to the Italian restaurant. My husband said the steak was good. I like my margarita pizza and appetizers/desserts. - They have a hot dog stand by the Scout's water park. - They have a small buffet/snack bar by the pool near the beach.

"Our family will return!"
Our family of four returned for a second visit to The Reserve. Our children ages 17 and 18 count down the days until we can relax in paradise. If you want a week of lounging at the beach or pool, this is the place. This year we upgraded to a swim up suite and will do so again. We enjoyed getting to know the wait staff and chefs and their personal service. Luis Rodriguez, Jairo Pacheco, Jeffery Diaz, and Adenauell Perez went above and beyond what we expected and connected with our family making us feel welcome and like we were having a meal at a good friend's home.  Our family works and studies hard and just want a week of reading good books with our feet in the sand or with our toes in the pool.  Can't wait to return!
