I didn't like how far it was away from my family. & the condition of outside appearance. & when I checked in I was sent to a room on the 3rd floor that wasn't ready. I was sent back down with ALL of my bags just to be put into another room on the 2nd floor. But overall, I was pleased with my stay & it was very peaceful & quiet. Great rates also, wasn't expensive for the amount of days I stayed. & the staff were, helpful, friendly & accommodating.

The place has changed...

Pros: Location
Cons: Breakfast, Cleanliness and cleaner grounds.
We have been staying at this location for the last 7 years since it was Microtel, through the years the building has changed !!! It is defiantly not the same, our room smelled like bleach it was so strong, there were stains all over the bathroom wall and door. The smoke alarm in the hallway had beeped all night long, it was like being in a hospital with the constant beeping. Breakfast was not good at all, some food was cold or dry like it was yesterdays breakfast left overs and the selection was slim despite how early we were there. Just very disappointing to see such a great place go downhill. The did a lot of cosmetic upgrades but down graded in the process. Perhaps the new owners can bring it back to the condition it was and improve the service.

Without minor annoyances, it would be a 5

Location: Sea Rim State Park and Sabine Pass State Park are very nice places to go spend some time and take some photos.
The bad first: 1) Hotel staff didn't seem particularly keen on whether I lived or died. Don't get me wrong; they weren't hostile; they just didn't smile, and I don't recall anyone's apologizing when I complained about one problem. 2) I requested two wakeup calls. Different receptionists scheduled them. Both occurred an hour early. I didn't complain, but if you plan to use their wakeup service, don't be surprised if it's an hour off. 3) The wifi worked poorly for the laptop. It connected, but the laptop kept having trouble receiving answers to requests. It worked fine for my mobile phone. No errors; it would waited for ever to receive the data, occasionally timed out. Restarting the wifi (as recommended by receptionist) didn't help. Strange thing is that my laptop works with wifi everywhere, so it's entirely possible the only reason it worked for the phone is that the phone was switching to LTE whenever the wifi proved unreliable. Now the good: 1) Looks very nice inside. Even the bathroom was painted a lovely shade of blue. I generally found the decor appealing. The room was small, but it was one bed and that's all I needed, conveniently enough. 2) The hot breakfast was typical: waffle maker, bread to toast, water and juice, bacon, eggs, sausage, others you expect. 3) Very comfortable. Hot water was hot when needed. 4) No refinery smell. Important point in Beaumont/Port Arthur area. 5) Felt safe. Not much nearby except plains & trees.

Disappointing

Pros: Clean and new, quiet location.
Cons: Isn't really much in the way of restaurants or shopping close by, but development takes time.
Location: Not far from local industries. Beach is within 25 miles or so. Not far from shopping near Port Arthur, Port Neches, Nederland area.
Thanksgiving eve, we reserved and prepaid for a room with a Queen bed for two adults. At check-in, we were given a single room with a double-sized bed and towels for a single person. The clerk had immediately required my credit card, in case they had to charge me for "incidentals". Had to leave right after check-in, but late that night I called the desk to inquire about the reservation, since we obviously did not have a Queen sized bed. I was told by the clerk that the bed in our room WAS a Queen sized bed, and that every room in the hotel was only outfitted with towels for a single person - we had to request more if we wanted them. I was told that the only "records" of the reservation I had originally requested would be shown in their computer as the room I was staying in. I was twice required to sign a page giving them authority to charge me for "incidentals", but I had to literally demand a copy of this page before I was finally given one at checkout. I had no problem with the cleanliness of the room, services for guests, or the breakfast. Having given this hotel a favorable review in the past, we were rather appalled at the attitude of the staff, and do not plan to stay there again.
