Excellent Location and staff, but very hard beds.

Pros: WE liked: location staff room size balcony size affordable ocean view simple
Cons: The beds. Very hard. Muy dura. It was quite a let down. If the beds were more comfortable, I would return in a heartbeat!
Location: Beach right outside. Walk through a small little park area and then BOOM you are in sand. Same scenario for Ferry Terminal and 5th Ave.
We really liked it! I had read all the reviews, so was somewhat prepared for most of it. But for the location, prices, view...it was hard to beat for our budget. Pros: Close to everything you need. Walk right out side you have the beach, ferry terminal, 5th ave, taxis, street entertainment, restaurants and stores etc. The room was cleaned daily and the staff was very nice and accommodating. A few spoke a little English, I spoke a little Spanish so in terms of communication, we managed. We ended up not using the pool, but it was clean and well maintained. . Cons: Bed was very hard. Not a typical "I like a firm mattress " hard. More like, a mattress pad on top of plywood hard. I asked the staff for extra pillows, which did in fact help us positions ourselves a lot better but still uncomfortable. One small con: water pressure could be improved. Tips: Parking: Offsite- about a block away. Left on Avenida 10 Norte and right into first parking lot. Workers speak mostly spanish. Park, get a ticket, next day, get in car, pull to exit, give them ticket and pay. Bath towels: 2 bath, 1 hand maybe ask for extra? Entrance Gate: Locked at night. There will be someone to unlock to let you in and out. I am unsure the hours they lock it. Made me feel safer. Beach Towels: deposit required $ returned at checkout. Ocean view: Empty lot between hotel and beach. No biggie for us. We really had a great time in Mexico. And can't wait to come back. Thank you for a pleasant stay! :-)

Playa del Carmen vacation

Hotel is really nice, staff is very helpful, The place was little to crowded for me, cause usually we stay in more private and secluded places. Still recommending to others, there is a lot to explore in Playa del Carmen.

A simple hotel in a great location.

Pros: Location is great.
Cons: A softer bed.
Location: Everything is nearby. Everything you need. A beach. ferry access, food, drinks, clubs, are all within a short walk.
Water pressure is low, and take time to warm up. Turn the bottom of the handle to the left, and wait a couple minutes for it to get warm. It might not get hot, but I never had a cold shower. Wifi is limited. Don't rely on it. Bed is a little firm, but I slept great on it. AC leaked a little on our last night. Not a big deal for us.

Birthday/Christmas Vacation

Pros: Cleanliness, location, ocean view, the quaintness of building and atmosphere of the location, the balcony.
Cons: Security safes need fixed, shower heads need replaced, fix the tvs or remove them,be clear about towels & provide beach towels at check-in & 2 coffees
Location: It is located by the ferry to Cozumel, right off 5th ave, steps to the beach and the Fundadores Park, Portal Maya with live shows daily & fruit stands
We booked the Hotel Casa Melissa for 7nights/8days,2 oceanfront rooms. Both rooms were clean,w/ refrigerators, nice&spacious balconies & decent size shower. There is a shower to rinse by the small pool along w/ a few lounge chairs. The views were nice & the area is a hub of activity located right off 5th Ave,beside an active park w/ shows, the ferry to cozumel & a nice beach w/ bars, restaurants, live music, activities & massages. It was a quaint hotel with some charachter and we did enjoy the hotel and the location. That being said, there were a few issues. The hotel was suppossed to have security safes in the rooms. Our room the safe was completely missing & the other room did not work.To their credit, the staff offered to try & fix it but we gave up after trying to arrange a schedule & discovering from other guests that none of the safes were working. We did not have any issues & none of our belongings were bothered throughout our stay. The tvs did not work, not an issue for us but the kids did not like it & it was part of the room amenities. The shower heads in the showers need replaced. They are only spraying out of half of the holes & it makes taking a shower difficult. It is a small fix that would improve the quality of the hotel. They only give 2towels a day&1coffee pack. They did not tell us about beach towels until day 3. FrontDeskService&Safe&Shower improvement could make this a really nice place. We did enjoy our vacation but we will try another small hotel next time.

Awful !!

Pros: It's clean
Cons: maids attitude
The maids will start at 7:30 AM dragging and slamming stuff on the floor either on the room next to you or above you until you leave your room. Don't they have anything else to do and just want to go home?? The hotel doesn't know about this practice ??? What a piece of crb One of the days I had to walk over soapy water that they throw to the floor just when I was opening the door. Nice people. They gave me a room that was being fixed, with a patched ceiling w/o lighting and white dust all over the room, tab, etc. Of course I requested another one, they didn't know the room was being fixed. It's a shame because the front desk people were mostly helpful and accommodating. But if you are looking for rest and face this..... Awful place!!!

Perfect location for inexperienced travelers!!

Pros: Beautiful room, nice view, firm bed
Cons: Nothing, honestly!
Location: Shopping, shopping, shopping... oh yeah, and the beach!!
I want to start by saying this was my first stay in Playa del Carmen, but not outside of the U.S. I read hundreds of reviews on hotel after hotel and even saw some of the negatives on this hotel but they were definitely not true in my experience. First of all, the hotel's location could not be better. Walk outside the hotel and to the left is the beach and the iconic archway in Playa del Carmen. One block straight ahead is the ferry to Cozumel, and less than a block to the right is 5th ave... the heart of it all. Shopping galore. The hotel is wonderful. English speaking staff that will make every effort to help you out. The hotel is kept very clean with little to no signs of disrepair. There is an elevator and they made sure to add ramps where any steps are located. The pool is very refreshing if you want to have a private swim with a view of the ocean.. nice lap pool that's about 4 1/2 feet deep, also kept very clean. The hotel room itself was wonderful. We stayed in the junior king suite. We had a great view of the beach from our balcony. Also the air conditioning is ICE cold! I woke up once or twice and had to turn the temp up. Very nice facilities overall. I was unsure what to expect initially.. but I had no desire to stay at an overpriced resort and never experience the real Playa del Carmen. I highly recommend taking a chance and staying at Casa Melissa!! We will definitely return!!
