Guest reviews for New Osaka Hotel

LIke most of the hotels in Japan, the staff was very courteous and helpful. Can't say as much for the rooms.

Pros: close to shin-osaka station
Cons: small rooms little space for luggage
I stayed at this hotel in 2002. It was the easiest hotel to get to from the Shin-Osaka Station and we just needed someplace to sleep. Because we booked it right then it was high and the room was so small. We were not impressed. However, needing another place just to sleep, I saw the Hotel online and noted that it had since had renovations so because of proximity and price, took a chance. Well, the rooms are still too small for 2 people and the room had no a/c. It was hot with the afternoon sun and we could only open our window a couple of inches. The room is so small that we did not even have a closet. It's a good thing that we just needed it to sleep but the tiny accommodations made that difficult too. Sorry, will look for another hotel next time.

Great rate and close to the New Osaka Station

Pros: Close restaurants, free drink
Cons: No free Internet
A hotel couldn't be closer to the train station. We had an early shinkansen trip the next day, so the one block walk to the eki was perfect. Upon checking in, the hotel gave us each a complimentary drink at the bar. You can't get a rate like this in Osaka very easily!

I don't recommed this hotel.

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: No free Internet, Noisy
I stayed at this hotel for 4days on bussiness. The room was so small and old. What I didn't like about this hotel most was that it has no closet! The chair was almost broken and hard to sit on for a long time. The first two nights were the night mare. There were highschool girls staying on the same floor I stayed. They're running in the hallway laughing sometimes screaming until midnight. The foor was supposed to be non smoking area but someone smoked after midnight and i could smell it in my room. That was terrible. Because it was on season during summer vacation, so I might say it was fair for the rate. I would find some other hotel next time.

an excellent buy with wonderful access to transportation

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
The Shin Osaka Hotel is a wonderful buy. It is reasonably priced, and is excellently located near the Shin Osaka Railroad station, which has access to the airport and to all the cities one would want to see. The room was tiny, but that was typical of our experiences in Japan. It was clean, and included all the necessaries (though having to climb into the inside position on the bed was a bit of a pain!) The bathroom was functional, and had a deluxe toilet which was fun to play with! We ate breakfast in the hotel, which was convenient and reasonably palatable, if not great. We also had dinner in the hotel restaurant on two occasions, and while not great, it was certainly acceptable and reasonably priced. The staff was helpful, if not entirely accurate, in mapping various places we wanted to get to--they were very kind and patient (but we got more useful help from the tourist information center in the railroad station.) The lobby was nicely appointed and, though we sat in it at the wrong time for coffee or drink service, when the staff recognized that we did want drinks, they served us even out of the listed service hours. We felt we had been very fortunate in choosing this hotel--it met our needs extremely well!

Close to train station

Pros: near train station
Very close to train station, which is a plus when traveling by train with a family - didn't have to pay for taxi. We used Osaka as our base while exploring other areas, so that was another reason for staying near the station. Good price!!! The rooms were very small, but this is normal for this type of hotel. Rooms were clean, staff was friendly. Would stay there again.

5 nights stay

This is one of the best hotel to stay when visiting the Kansai region on JR pass for its price and location. Make sure your booking includes the breakfast buffet. Excellent price and very close to Shin Osaka station. We arrived at the hotel around 10 am and was able to leave our bags with the hotel. Checked in at 3pm after visiting Osaka castle. Room has a sliding wooden window making it like a cell. The window looks to the wall of the next building. Bed is clean and sheets are clean. It has a bidet.

Good for the price

Room is really small - closet doesn't even exist, only 4 hangers against the mirror, but the price was quite cheap. About a 30-45 minute train ride to Namba which is the popular street with lots of restaurants and entertainment with two train changes so it makes this hotel not so conveniently located. On the bright side, it is only one station away from Spa World which is a really fun and relatively cheap place to go to for multiple hot springs and massage. Although there are no computers available, but a large internet cafe is located across the street. Not much restaurants nearby, but the JR Shin-Osaka train station is less than 3 minute walk away from the central gate exit. It's a major station so there are lots of restaurants and snacks located in the station. Staff knows limited English, but it's enough to get us by.

Ok hotel but there are other options.

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet
Cons: Nothing close, Noisy
I initially chose this hotel because of it's location. Since I was arriving via the bullet train, it made perfect sense to find a hotel just minutes from Shin Osaka station. In that sense, this hotel is pretty much unbeatable. It's the closest hotel to Shin Osaka station and is literally 40m away from the Midosuji subway. It's also a central hub in terms of transportation and has many buses which depart from the station parking lot. But with that being said, the area around Shin Osaka station consists primarily of office buildings with only a few convenience stores nearby. If you're planning on using it as a base of operations over several days, Umeda (Osaka station) would be a much better alternative. With literally hundreds of stores within walking distance, you'd have a much better selection for shopping and eating out. It's also a vibrant area with its people and bright lights. Shin Osaka by comparison is a ghost town by 11pm. As for the hotel itself, it was probably an elegant upscale hotel at one time but I found it to be old and antiquated. The wooden trim and furniture in my room was full of nicks and slightly discolored. The bathroom taps were old and took a good 2 to 3 minutes before they flowed with hot water. The washlet was broken. The walls were fairly thin; I was able to hear the honeymoon couple in the next room spend a sleepless night together. Thankfully, the staff was very helpful in addressing these issues. So basically, if you're looking for a place to stay for one night while on business, it may be a good place to stay if you find a good deal. But if you're vacationing and want to use it as a hub to explore Osaka, I'd stay in Umeda.
