"Beach front hotel, what more could you ask."
Just a short walk to the beach this hotel was perfect. The room rate made it very budget wise. Restaurants within walking distance also antique shops. Well worth the money!

"Close to beach"
We only stayed one night and our room was around the corner from the pet beach, very nice, the room was just the bare essentials, but that was ask we needed. On the down side, don't shower while someone is using the sink, hot water went cold. Still a nice overnight stay, good price

"A little dated, but comfortable."
The hotel was a little dated. They're currently remodeling many of the bungalows on the waterfront and they look like they'll be really nice. Ours had a bit of a mildewy smell (we were told it was the humidity. Location is right on the waterfront.), but it was comfortable and seemed clean enough. The bed was nice, which seems more and more rare. I left out some of my essential oils and two of them disappeared. It was a small theft and at first I thought I just misplaced them, so I didn't report it, but I made sure and locked EVERYTHING up after that. Unfortunately I later had a bra disappear too...and I know where I left that! The hotel staff was polite, but not exactly warm. The restaurant was lovely and the view was stunning. Food was delicious and a great place for a special dinner. The waitresses were exceptional and friendly. The hot tub was nice, but several drunken locals sneaked in and were disruptive. They claimed to do it often to different area resorts, but liked Humphries the best for their lack of concern. We avoided the hot tub after that. Unfortunate because the pool area was really lovely and clean. In the end, the price was right and we'd probably stay again especially considering the updating and location, but we'll certainly be more cautious with our belongings.

"Nice hotel grounds, room could have been better"
Upon arrival, the grounds looked very lush and well kept.Check in was a breeze and Rich at the front desk was extremely helpful and accommodating. The room we were given 1st, had a pocket door to the bathroom that was off track. An engineer was sent out right away to see if it was repairable. It was not, so we were given another room. The size of the shower/tub room was pretty small.I have 2 girls to bathe and we barely had room to move around in there. Also, the shower curtain was set too high so it let a lot of water out into the sink/vanity area.I wondered how the base boards got so water damaged. The room door when closed properly, didn't line up with the dead bolt so you had to pull the door back into the room in order to lock it.

"good value, but tragically hip"
In it's desperate attempt to be hip, The Pearl forgets some of the standard sophistication generally seen in hotels of all quality today. My first biggest disappointment was the lack of soap in the room for my full 5-day stay. Soap is an amenity that even the scummiest of places provide, but here the staff suggested I go buy my own since they were out. Secondly, the restaurant staff at the hotel were clueless and clearly untrained in how to seat people. I was told I could not be sat at a two-top being just a single, which is unheard of; then the hostess told me to stand at the host station and wait for a bar stool while other customers swooped into empty stools directly at the bar. I ended up leaving. Finally, the rooms are nice, but there are some things that have not been updated since the mid-century, such as the shower, plumbing system as a whole, and the a/c (whose loudness is great for drowning out the annoying event noise- movie night is a great idea, but they clearly are not equipped to host so many people and allow people to sit directly against guest room walls, another tribute to the flaky staff).

"The place to stay on the bay"
I would definitely stay here again. The staff was friendly, helpful, and available. The hotel even has a vacation atmosphere. We ate several meals other than breakfast in the restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious. The area around the hotel is wonderful for walking or just sitting on a bench and watching the boats in the bay.

"Friendly staff, great restaurant"
Was in San Diego for business but had extra time to sight-see a bit as well. Very convenient to the San Diego airport, close to downtown and to Horton Plaza. I had an early flight on Sunday morning, and fortunately for me, the shuttle service to the airport started at 4:30 a.m. Enjoyed the breakfast and lunch I had in the restaurant, where the food was excellent and the prices reasonable. Hotel staff were great about welcoming me back each time I returned to the hotel. Gift shop has good snack and beverage selection and is open until 10 pm. Located directly across the street from a nice walking path flanking the bay. At the same time, one would need a car to get to most attractions conveniently. I would return to this hotel on my next visit to San Diego.
