Best you can expect without paying a fortune to spend the night in New York City. Small but clean room. Staff was friendly.

Quiet part of town.

Pros: Quiet location, just a few blocks from subway stop.
Location was quiet, staff courteous. Rooms are very small but clean, bed takes up most of the room. Bargain basement furniture but adequate. Bathroom very clean but small.

Upper West Side hideaway

This is my second time at this hotel. When you go to NY you don't go to hang out in your room; you go for New York. This hotel is in my favorite place in the world; the upper west side of manhattan. it is two blocks from Zabars, right next to Riverside Park, etc. Very safe quiet neighborhood. Not many hotels in this neck of the woods; it is not the "tourist area " downtown. but that is fine with me. Used to be a Columbia Univ Dorm, I am told. small rooms not a lot of amenities but comfortable enought. Location Location Location.

Great deal for the $$

Excellent location - near subway, shops, restaurants. Great price. Minimal comforts, but the beds were clean and firm. Suite lay-out awkward but functional. Desk staff was super friendly and helpful. Great deal for the money.

Great location. Nice staff.

Pros: location, staff, cleanliness
Cons: thicker walls, not have to listen to construction during the day (none after 5pm)
Location: Close to great restaurants, Hudson River, transportation, Central Park, Natural History Museum. Short bus ride to MET and Museum Mile.
The location is fabulous. It is only 3 blocks from the subway and cross town bus. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is very old and some renovations are underway. The walls are very thin and I heard some things I did not care to hear. However, for the price, it is to be expected that it would not be perfect. I do believe the staff has done a good job of keeping it clean and pleasant.

Value for $

Efficient checkin/out. Rooms small even by NYC standards (hotel is a former dormitory) but adequate for our purposes. Great for a couple + older kid. Zabar's and mass transit just one block east. Rates very reasonable.

Jewel on the river

Like no hotel I've ever stayed at. The price was great for a 2 room, 2 bed suite in a great area. View of the Hudson, shops, subway and park just a walk away. Better than any Motel 6, Super 8 or Days inn by far. This hotel was a great find and I'll stay there again.
