"Gorgeous, secluded and quiet"
We saw this place on a previous trip when some friends decided that they wanted to eat at the hotel's restaurant, Capische. While the restaurant's food isn't all that memorable, the hotel itself definitely is.The two main buildings could best be described as prairie style meets Ewok village. A river runs through the middle of the property and you can pick fresh fruit off of the trees. The staff are very sweet and friendly. The spa area is downright indulgent. I didn't for a moment feel like the $25 daily resort fee was a waste of money, and that's saying something.

"Great place to stay."
My wife and I stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary, we loved it! Some of the reviews that I read complained that it was too far from everything else on the island. That was actually what convinced me to stay here. It was quiet and peaceful and the beach was never crowded. If your looking for a place to stay that has night life around it then this is not your resort, this is a place to enjoy the paradise that is Maui.

    Enjoy the Sun and Sand

The island of Maui has more than 80 beaches, so that gives you plenty of opportunity to sink your toes into the sand. Maui hotels and resorts often border these beautiful beaches, so definitely look for a beachfront (or poolside) view. Regardless of where you end up staying, you can take advantage of many of the public beaches. A tourist favorite is Kaanapali Beach (or Black Rock Beach), which is famous for its white sands, crystal-clear water, resorts, and golf courses. If you're looking for a great sunset view, travel a bit further up the coast to Napili Beach. It's a favorite location for honeymooners. Follow the coast even further to the northern end of the island to Ho'okipa Beach Park, which is world-famous for surfing and windsurfing. Even if you don't know how to "hang ten," you can watch the rad people who can there. On the southern end of the island is Makena State Park, which houses Oneloa Beach (or Big Beach), which is another great swimming and surfing destination.

Go Out on an Inland Adventure

Venture inland during your stay in Maui, Hawaii. Hotels on the beach are great, but it's also important to wander and explore what else the island has to offer. Take a pleasure cruise in a rental car along the coast on the famous road to Hana, or Route 36. You may want to stop at several key spots along the way just to snap a photo or take in the sights. You could also go for an adventure at Kipahulu National Park, which houses waterfalls, bamboo trails, and the 'Ohe'o Gulch pools. There's also the breathtaking 'Iao Valley State Monument, which adds some local history to your experience, and the Wai'anapanapa State Park, which doesn't have white sandy beaches but remote black-sand beaches.

Get the Hawaiian Peace of Mind

If there's one thing to do during your stay in Maui besides taking the road to Hana, it's viewing the giant crater at Haleakala National Park. Experience the fascinating feeling of standing above the clouds. Get up to watch the sunrise; it's worth it. You can also experience a bit of serenity while walking through the Garden of Eden Botanical Garden or while taking in the smells and sights of the tranquil fields at Ali'i Kula Lavender. While you're traveling inland, be sure to stop by the more-than-130-year-old Banyan Tree to say "aloha" to something that's older than any human being alive.

    Appreciate Local Wildlife

Snorkeling and interacting with local wildlife is a favorite activity in Maui. Whether you're looking at sea turtles, humpback whales, dolphins, fish, or coral reefs, it's important to give these creatures the respect they deserve. Observe some of this wildlife without having to dive at the Maui Ocean Center, or take to the seas while whale-watching with the Pacific Whale Foundation. Be sure to have fun while snorkeling with a local group like Maui Snorkel Charters.

    See Great Live Entertainment

On a rare rainy day or during the nights, Maui has a lot to offer in terms of live entertainment. Elvis fans can appreciate Burn'n Love, performed by a world-renowned Elvis impersonator, Darren Lee. For a mystical evening, be sure to check out Warren & Annabelle's Magic Show or Kupanaha Maui Magic Dinner Theater. On the other hand, if you're looking for an old-fashioned Polynesian luau, check out the Feast at Lele.

    Explore in Your Own Way

There are hundreds of ways to explore the island of Maui. Hotels Maui has to offer can provide you with an excellent starting point, but from the time you step out of the door, you can find your own method for wandering. Enjoy horseback riding on the beaches with Lahaina Stables, bike across the many gorgeous roads with Haleakala Bike Company, or traverse the green inland while hiking with Hike Maui. Explore the ocean as well. You could do so by kayaking or stand-up paddle-boarding with Hawaiian Paddle Sports, while surfing with Maui Surfer Girls or the Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy, via sailboat with Trilogy Excursions, or via raft with Redline Rafting Company. Take to the skies as well; you could sail through the air at Flyin Hawaiian Zipline or Kapalua Ziplines or get an excellent view via helicopter with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters.

    Savor Local Flavors

While you're in town, be sure to check out the favorite dishes of Maui. From SPAM musubi to ahi poke, you can find many interesting, fun, and unique flavors if you know where to look. Try seafood dishes at Mama's Fish House Restaurant, tacos at Coconut's Fish Cafe, prime rib at Kimo's, a burger at Cool Cat Cafe, or poke at The Fish Market Maui or Eskimo Candy Seafood Market & Cafe. For dessert, go out for shaved ice at Ululani's Shaved Ice or pie at Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop.
