Everything but the food/drink

Posted Apr 12, 2013
Pros: Free breakfast, Quiet
Cons: No free Internet
The hotel and grounds were great. Clean, comfortable, etc. The pools are not huge, so it is a more intimate resort as everything is close together. The rooms were clean, very spacious and comfortable. Mini Fridge kept stocked with water and soda which was nice. The bad was the dinner choices. Breakfast was decent, made to order omelettes and delicious chocolate croissant roles. Lunch was not great but you could grab a burger, fajitas or chicken nuggets, nachos, etc. from the snack bar at the pool. Dinner, we only tried it one night at the Sit Down Italian restaurant. Ordered fettuccine alfredo and it was basically buttered noodles. The wine was old, from 2001- 2009 for Pinot Grigio. So we ate off property the rest of the trip. Not worth our all inclusive. Also, the drinks were not ideal. The mixers other than soda were all way to sweet. And the bar service was slow as was the wait staff around the pool on week days. Weekend days the pool service for drinks was much better.

Not sure if we would come back

Posted Mar 19, 2013
All in all I think this resort was a good resort. Pros - We liked that it was smaller and easy to get around and find out friends. The food was great. Cons - The main pool which was suppose to be heated wasn't heated so we couldn't use it at all, and several times during our week there the hot tubs weren't heating. You would think they would make sure to always have the extra parts they needed to keep the pools and hot tubs up to par. The pool bartenders and wait staff really lacked in speed. They should've had more wait staff walking around the pool areas. At other resorts I've stayed at you never had to wait around for a drink. I would definitely go back to San Jose del Cabo, but I'm not sure if it would be at this resort.

We had a great time.

Posted Mar 15, 2013
Pros: Free breakfast
Cons: No free Internet
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and the hotel was delightful. Although, swimming was not recommended, the beach was beautiful with the opportunity for long walks in both directions. The cons were the stinginess with the towels, and the fact that the concierge tried to rope us into a time share presentation when we asked about excursions. Be carefule of the room you book. We had an oceanfront room which was wonderful but we talked to people who had garden rooms and were subjected to loud music throughout the night.

Nice place to stay but a bit pricey for what you get

Posted Feb 20, 2013
Cons: No free Internet
We have stayed at many resorts in different parts of mexico. This was our least favorite out of them all. There was not much to do at the resort and for half of the stay we felt like we were the only ones there. This is a family resort and we brought our 3 children. At times some of the staff made us feel as if our children were a bother. Other staff members were great and went above and beyond. We were with out children the enitre time and they are good kids so would hate to see how they would be if someone had a child that was naughty!!!

Nice Hotel

Posted Feb 1, 2013
Pros: location, beach
Cons: Poor breakfast, food
The hotel, rooms, and pools were nice. Food was not very good. Service was very slow at the restaurants that you had to have reservations for. Bartenders were very nice and pretty quick. Not the best hotel I have been to.

Lost Cam-corder in the LOBBY during check-in!

Posted Jan 4, 2013
Pros: Free breakfast
Cons: No free Internet
Can you belive you may lost something in the main lobby of Hola grand faro? It truly happend! We arrived at the hotel around 4pm the day. After a 11-hour trip, we were exhausted. We got the room keys and wanted to know the activities and schedules in the hotel. The reciptionist referred us to a lady who's desk is on the left side of the door in the lobby. She was very nice and gave us the map of the hotel. When we ask her for more information of the hotel, she told us there will be an orentation tomorrow morning at 8:30 for about 90 minites. And she can give us 100 credit to each of us. I started to worry about if it's something related to time-share selling and told her that I couldn't make the decision right away. she kept on pursuading us so we stayed there for some more time until we really lost our patience. When we were leaving, we gave her our room number as she insisted. When we finally got out from the lobby, my husband made a mistake, forgetting his camera bag on her desk, with a Camara and new Sony Hdr handy-cam inside. The next morning, the lady called us. She told us that we had left a bag and if we want to take the oretation. We appreciated her for getting the bag back to us. However, when we opened the bag, only the camara was in the bag -- the cam-corder was gone. It turned out that she just found the bag on her desk and just left it under her desk for the night, rather than calling us immediately or gave it to the front desk. There is a surveillance camera in the lobby, so we ask the hotel security manager to check the video for us. We waited for a whole day and back and forth a few times before finally given the result, which was still dis-appointing, the manager said that they didn't find any clue. We asked if there were anyone approaching the desk suspiciously at the night, but no answer was given. Of course, we were not allowed to watch the video as well. We talked with the security supervisor as well, no constructive progress was made. Finally, we stopped there, didn't want to waste more time and ruined our vacation. I don't want to say that the staff in the hotel was not helpful at all. We still appreciated that getting the camera back and the hotel employees were polite. Cabos are a wonderful place, we enjoyed our vacation there with the beautiful sunshine, blue water, snorkeling, parasailing ..., except this bad experience -- losing a cam-corder is not surprising, but lost in the hotel lobby is something unexpected and shouldn't happen to a grand hotel.

Nice grounds, very friendly staff, great beach

Posted Jan 3, 2013
Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Quiet
We stayed from the day after Christmas till New Year's Eve. Did not seem to be very crowded, which was nice. Pool area and beach access are excellent. Five miles of beautiful beach. Two "sit down" formal restaurants. Limited menu, and food was good but not exceptional. Had to make reservations in the morning. Other restaurants were buffet-style, and again, food was good but nothing really special. Walking distance (maybe 1.5 miles) to downtown area. Only negative was that it took FOREVER to check out. Stood in a very short line for 45 minutes, while one group was tended to. Would have seemed like they would've gotten assistance for the people waiting.

Family oriented, friendly, peaceful

Posted Dec 26, 2012
Pros: Quiet
Cons: No free Internet
My husband and I stayed here for a few days, to get some rest and relaxation after a stressful fall. It was wonderful! We absolutely loved our time here--it was everything we'd hoped for. Gorgeous, beautiful beach, peaceful atmosphere for couples like us, but with fun things going on for people wanting more activity--but definitely not a party atmosphere. We were worried about winding up with a bunch of rowdy college kids, but it was not that scene at all, which was great for us. The room was lovely, spacious and clean, with a very comfy bed. The staff was incredible--everyone was always smiling and happy to help us. We loved the buffets, particularly the breakfast and lunch. The dinner buffet was a little bland, but we made reservations in the two more formal restaurants at the resort, and dinners there were quite good. Make sure to make dinner reservations early because they run out of room fast; also, we stood in line for half an hour after our reservation time on the last night, and they seemed quite overwhelmed. But once we got in, the food was good. The nacho bar by the pool is fun, and the staff came by the pool to make sure we always had drinks. The resort was beautiful and welcoming, and we really couldn't have asked for more. We sprang for an oceanfront room, and I think it was totally worth it--it might be less quiet if you face the middle of the resort/pool.

Shut down food options for too much of my stay

Posted Nov 29, 2012
Cons: No free Internet, Noisy, Poor breakfast
Why do I have to reserve? Why do I have to dress up? Room service is slow, and the food isn't good. Dinner Buffet was nice but not great (for the 1 night it was available). Breakfast was hit/miss. Constantly running out of items (toast, bacon, fruit).

Great price, great service, great time!

Posted Nov 22, 2012
Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Quiet, great location
Cons: No free Internet, t.v. channels wer mostly in spanish no espn
The hotel is absolutely beautiful, right on the beach you cannot beat the view. Very well maintained and cleaned. The staff was super friendly and just about everyone spoke English quite well. When we arrived we were greeted at our shuttle by the bellhop who took our luggage and directed us to the front desk for a quick and easy check in. We were given the room I chose online, upgraded to the Sol Tower for the better view and more space, well worth it. The grounds were kept up quite well and the service was prompt and courteous. The restaurants on the property were phenominal. The breakfast and lunch buffets were amazing, in both quality and view. Overlooking the ocean while eating is very peaceful. The Italian and Mexican restaurant were both exceptional with exceptional service. The meals were delicious and beautifuly plated. We did not like the dinner buffet or the snack bar too much. A bit bland and poor choices. The bars were pretty good. The first one dosen't open until 11am, that sounds bad but when the sun comes up at 5:30 and your on the beach at 8am, it can feel later than it is hahaha. The only knock I have on the drinks is that they can be quite inconsitant, even from the same bartender on the same night. The liquor and beer selection are pretty good, not top shelf but very respectible brands. Tipping your bartender does help but the problem is everyone moves around so much that you never know who is working where at any given time of the day. Seemed like I had to tip alot of people alot of pesos everyday to keep decent drinks coming. The place was half empty, even though kids are free to stay there, we didn't see many. At the end of our 6 day stay the Baja International Film Festival rolled in there and the last day was a bit more busy. The town of San Jose is very nice, clean and safe. A mini mall is less than a mile away with a Mc Donalds, few little boutiques and a grocery supercenter, think Wal-Mart. We spent most of our days hanging around the resort, playing volleyball or laying on the beach. They don't reccommend swimming in the ocean but we did and there were plenty of other people doing it too. Not really a good idea if you aren't a strong swimmer, but thats just common sense. Took an exscursion into San Lucas for snorkeling and kayaking, had a great time there as well. All and all it was an excellent experience. Would highly reccommend this resort to friends and may even visit again even though we aren't the type of people to go to the same place twice.
