Nice location but worst quality in service

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: staff's poor quality
I stayed here for a family Christmas vacation, and found out this report is a part of Marriott franchise. So at the beginning I expected much but quality of the reception desk and staff's awareness were the worst I ever experienced. I liked restaurant and their staffs in over all, but people in reception desk had the worst service mind in their industry. They frequently forgot about what we asked for and it seemed like they don't understand what they are doing at all. Maintenance of the villa was also poorly managed and could't find out any reason to recommend to friends or people i know.

A Dream Vacation

Pros: Quiet
Cons: No free Internet
My husband and I stayed at the Koh Samui Renaissance for 10 days and had a wonderful time. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful in finding out about the local area (restaurants, tours, etc). The grounds were beautiful and my spa experience was peaceful and relaxing. The oil warmers all around the hotel were wonderful....I loved looking at the various designs and the scents were amazing (lemongrass, I'm pretty sure). Our room was comfortable and had a beautiful view. The outdoor tub was a fantastic surprise. We tried all of the restaurants at the hotel and ended up liking the food from the beach/pool bar the best. We loved sitting at the pool or on the beach enjoying an afternoon snack or dinner. The food was delicious (try the Samuian pizza...we had it twice during our stay!) and the prices were very reasonable. The lap pool that was near our room was ideal because fewer guests used it, most preferred the beach pool, and the lap pool provided privacy and quiet. The only downside was this area looked like it could have used a little more upkeep (sweeping, etc). We did receive breakfast each morning with our room (which was unexpected) and it was lovely...much more than the average hotel breakfast. I fell in love with these fruit spreads they served and when I told the staff how much I enjoyed them they let me know they could order some for me...it was a fantastic treat that I was able to bring home from my trip. Overall, our experience was just what we were looking for: quiet, at our own pace, and relaxing. If we ever travel to the island again we will definitely stay at the Renaissance!
