Overall nice, but a little far from things

Pros: clean
Cons: the reality of the rooms and hotel versus the expectations set forth on the website images, and lower price to be in line with a simple clean basic.
Location: quite a walk to the lake and tourist area, as well as the train station so had to walk a lot each day to everything. Getting money changed from US
Somewhat long walk from train station and Lake Como tourist area. Staff was friendly. Don't leave passport with them at check in as they request because they don't give it back when you go out on the town and we had to walk all the way back to get it so we could exchange some money for Euros at the post office. The breakfast was mediocre and tasteless. Lots of flies in the food area. The rooms and hotel weren't as nice as the marketing images on the website - did some camera tricks - but clean and ok. Somewhat expensive for what getting - basic and clean, with no special touches of other hotels where we stayed in Europe but paid as much here. Had an ironing room which many hotels didn't. Getting money changed from US dollars to Euros was ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS in this town & throughout Italy. They obviously don't want the tourists money. Went to 11 banks & multiple ATMs plus hotels, boats & Bellagio and got total runaround about who could do this. Finally found it is the post office but the hotel had our passports so they wouldn't do it until we walked all the way to our inconveniently located hotel to get them and go back to the post office. It is as if no one ever asked how to make this money exchange throughout all of Italy. If you don't do it at the train station (and pay their big fees), good luck getting Euros to spend!!! And majority won't take Visa/credit cards at the gelato shops, restaurants, bars, shops, etc, and if so, there is a $15 to 50 minimum.

Dear guest, are You sure that You really stayed in our hotel? It's the fist time since we are on web that someone complains about the position of the hotel. As You can read on this website and others, hundreds of comments says that position is one of hotel best feature: 650m from the main square, where there is the boarding for boats (9 mins walking distance, google maps says); 700m from the old town ( just behind the main square); 600m from central train station ( 8 mins walking distance, always google maps ); 500m from the central post office ( 7 mins walking, You already know the font); 250m from the lakeside (4 mins walking), 190m from 24h supermarket (2 mins walking). If these WALKING DISTANCES are "inconveniently" in Your opinion, we are sorry but that's not our fault. About Check-in: we spend from 5 to 10 mins for recording documents (depending on how many people is the booking about), after that time You have only to ask for passports at the desk. Many guests decide to leave it here while they are outside, because they have other valid documents in case of need, or just because they don't need them. We don't force people to take back passports. If You need it, just ask for it. About rooms photos: there is absolutely no photo trick on the web files. Also on this point, first guest complain since we have photos on the web. Another record. About money change: Italy is not Usa. We have Euro and we use cash for small expenses: only in north Europe You can find a situation similar to Your country. Best way to change US dollars to Euro is when You arrive in Italy, directly at the airport ( with honest fees) or at the local post office. These last lines are basic informations about our country, that You can find in hundreds web pages about holiday in Italy. We strongly recommend You to get more infos for next holiday, whatever country will be. Ciao
