"This hotel was over and beyond what we expected"
The Staff was friendly, They went out of their way to makes us feel welcome and at home. Room service was outstanding. The sheets. Oh my... the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. They took us to our outing and picked us up when it was over. I can't say enough for the service and the care. It is well located, close to everyting we needed to do. Just a fantastic place to stay. More than recommend it.

"very happy w/the hotel"
the room (actually 2 rooms) were large, clean, and very comfortable. the bed was very comfortable. there was a large flat screen tv in both rooms, as well as a small refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee-maker. the breakfast includes excellent, fresh omelettes (made to order) as well as a large assortment of other things. as with all embassy suite hotels, there is a two hour manager's reception in the early evening which includes free drinks (including non-alcoholic beverages). the hotel staff is friendly and helpful. they have a van that will take to to/from the airport, as well as local spots that are within a couple of miles. i have only good thinngs to say about the des moines embassy suites.

"Friendly, helpful staff"
We stay here every time we come to Des Moines because it is close to all the highways, etc. and have never had any problems. The front desk was extremely accommodating with blankets and whatever we needed. The front desk staff made us feel very welcome and gave outstanding recommendations on places to eat and local attractions; the reception would be a large reason why I would come back and stay again. The staff were very nice and we deeply enjoyed the restaurant and their staff as well. The shower was great- hot water, great pressure and a really good shower head. The room was very clean. Our price was very reasonable. We have stayed in motels twice this price and not anywhere near as nice. Keep up the good work! Wish I could have stayed longer :)

"all i can say is WOW. customer for life"
well im not sure why some people would give this hotel such bad reviews. Maybe I just happened to stay at the right time, maybe its my simple and go with the flow mindset. but my stay was nothing short than perfect. My girlfriend and I arrived and from the get go I was in aw. (to agree with others, yes its an old hotel..it was built in freaking 1918 what do you expect) The hotel is def antique, my girlfriend and I actually loved the look of the lobby since it reminded her of the titanic, very cool looking elevators, décor everything screamed retro. The room, yes furniture looked old but def comfortable and super cozy. the bathroom was great, with amazing water pressure which is always a plus. The staff was great, never once did we receive anything less than smile and willingless to help. Our room felt a little warm which they front desk apologized for and explained due to the extremely hot temps the air was having trouble keeping up so we were given a fan which really was only used for couple mins since during the night it chilled down anyways. The restaurant never opened while we were there but then again we were too busy enjoying the city. so in conclusion, I you are looking for a "Hello I am king/queen take my bags, do what I want, etc" type of stay then yea go with the Larger hotel chains. but if you are looking for a really cool laid back hotel, something that you actually find taking pictures of inside, and at a great price with great local then stay here. (stayed Aug30- sept 2)

    Des Moines, Iowa Hotel Guide

Though you can find some inexpensive hotels when you visit Des Moines, you should expect to splurge on a place to sleep. There is a good selection of mid-range accommodations that are affordable, but if you are hoping to stay in a three- or four-star lodging, you are going to pay for it. With over 10,000 hotel rooms in Des Moines, you are bound to find one that works with your budget and offers the amenities you want.

To be in the middle of the action, the downtown area is where you want to stay. This is where the more luxury hotels are located, so if you find the benefits outweigh the difference in cost of staying in a more affordable hotel, your stay will be more catered to than if you stayed elsewhere. These larger hotels are tailored to business travelers’ needs, with ample meeting space, Internet, and business centers.

The Central area has a handful of accommodations in varying price ranges, from a bed and breakfast to a motor inn. The University is nearby, meaning there are more affordable dining establishments here, but the area may be a little noisier than you’re used to.

Families may find Northeast Des Moines more to their liking. There is a broader range of amenities and it is close to the Adventureland Amusement Park and the fairgrounds. Big kids are within close proximity of the casino and racetrack and have the option of staying on-site and being just steps away from pretty much anything, including entertainment, dining, and shopping.

If you’re visiting Des Moines on a budget, book a room in the North. You have easy access to downtown and all of the city’s best attractions. You’ll be happy to still have money left over to sightsee after paying for your lodging, but you’ll also have a great place to sleep when you return from exploring Des Moines.
