"Cute, quirky, and affordable."
We decided on Coconut Cay because it was within our price range on Travelocity and despite some negative reviews, the ownership replied to each review, which showed they really cared about travelers' experiences.
As someone in the tourism industry, this is important to me. Too many people complain after the fact when they could have issues rectified, or perhaps they just didn't expect what was clearly laid out for them.
If you're interested in affordable little oasis, funky colors, free amenities like kayaks, paddle boats, bbqs, fishing rods, and bikes, and don't mind kind of a vintage hotel look and feel inside, this is the place for you.
We got what seems like the best room in the place, 62, with a semi-private patio looking out to the canal and a little grass lot. They have some cute parrots that add to the environment, a pool, a horseshoe pit.
The rooms are adequately furnished (though our hotel lights and power outlets were a little funky), but don't expect super high quality bedding. You get what you pay for in the hotel room itself, it's everything else that makes this place a great deal and me extremely loyal to it.
It is right off the main drag and right next to the airport, so be aware you'll hear planes and traffic. Some of the rooms face the main road, so that's a bummer. If you're looking for a bit more of a quiet getaway, I'd call the hotel and ensure you're not in those rooms.
