Decent room, for the price I won't complain. Got a non-smoking room but it smelt of smoke. Walls are a bit thin, I could hear the people next door. I felt safe though!

I would not recommend this property. The staff isn't very friendly and the room didn't smell very good.

Budget Hotel

Pros: It was available. It was close to down town. The rate was reasonable.
Cons: Too much to list. I guess start with new carpet, or maybe linoleum. Get the trash out of the covered parking. Fix the WiFi and TV.
Location: Down Town. Mountain Mike's Pizza 2 blocks away. UC Berkeley nearby.
The check-in desk is through a window. The staff live behind the window. Annoyed that you are bothering them. When checking in, I said "checking in". The woman behind the window said "ID". That was it. Like she was demanding it. There are only about 14 parking spaces. People live here in some of the rooms. The walls and floors are thin. We had to leave the TV on to drown out the noise of the people living below our room.

This is not really a "tourist" hotel.

Pros: Cheap.
Cons: Cleanliness. Smoke smell.
Location: On San Pablo (which leads to lots of other shopping experiences within 10 miles either way - not really walkable). Close to University Ave (walkable).
This is not really a "tourist" hotel. It is cheap. There was the smell of smoke in the room. When I asked the manager how long the room had a been a "non-smoking" he said always. I stated that it obviously smelled like smoke. His response was "some people lie about not smoking". There was almost always someone smoking in the stairway (all the "halls" and stairways are external). The towels have definitely seen better days. The hotel is located in an area with lots of Indian restaurants and a couple blocks away from University Ave (a major street that lead to UC-Berkeley). The UC-Berkeley campus is 2.1 miles away. I needed a room that was cheap and close to the campus. This kind of fit the bill. I just wish that it had been a little bit better kept. The Wifi worked fine except one day where I had to ask them to reboot the AP. If you are looking for a really cheap place to stay and have low expectations, this is a decent choice. I definitely would not take my wife here, but if you just want to crash and save money, well......

Surprisingly great!

I was a bit skeptical about this hotel, but it is really rather nice, clean, and comfortable for the price, especially compared to other hotels in the area that are much more expensive. Clean room and a comfortable bed. Nothing fancy, but it was great.

A good value for a place to sleep.

Pros: It was pretty quiet. The family who run it are very nice. Our room was a nice size.
Cons: Probably not a lot without a lot of investment, at which point, the whole thing would become a whole lot more expensive. The Wi-fi was erratic.
Location: It's Berkeley! Lots of restaurants with fresh local food! Museums on the campus! Buy a sari (lots of sari shops)! Walk and enjoy the California sun!
This was one of the least expensive options I found in Berkeley and it was perfectly adequate. It appears to be a family-run motel, older building, a little shabby. But the sheets were clean, the room was serviced every day, and the towels were replaced as we used them. The beds were ok as well. If you like to feel that you are surrounded by luxury, this is not the hotel for you. If you are looking for a place to stay that is reasonable in price from which you can explore the area, this might do you well. The neighborhood is rapidly gentrifying, with a very nice cafe next door with very good food. There are still a lot of street people around, but I didn't encounter any aggressive begging. The neighborhood is quiet and so was the clientele, although as is common with older buildings, one can hear people walking around above one. It is about two miles to UC Berkeley (up hill all the way), so a pleasant walk, or about half a mile to the BART, which in one stop will take you close to the university and into the downtown area.

Bed Bugs

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: Noisy
Found 5 bugs within the 15 minutes we looked. Then we took one to the front desk to show them. Told to pack up quickly and they would try to find us another room on their properties. None available. They didn't charge us. But scarred for life. Room lit very dimly so glad we had a flashlight with us to look around the room. I'm sure there were more...we stopped looking after we found 5. I don't understand how maids could not know about bugs. Blood stains on sheets too. Someone there had to know that room has bedbugs. Hard to miss.”
