"Hotel on the Beach"
An on the beach hotel was a must for us. You walked out of the hotel you hit the pool and then the sand. Of the other hotels around us, the buildings were a little further back, and then the pool area was alot bigger, so your walk to the beach was longer. The pools here were pretty basic here, no lazy river, no water falls, but nice, extremely clean pools with a hot tube a couple of jacuzzis. But the beach here is the best, plenty of shade from well placed palm trees and plenty of open clean beach.

"We had a great time at the Occidental. "
The hotel is a fun place. Full of daily activities planned. The staff is attentive and always happy. My girlfriend and I went with 4 other couples and we were all very happy with the Occidental Experience. The food at all but one reataurant was excellent. First time at an Occidental and will be returning. The room was spotless and nicely furnished. The facilities are excellent. Truly a great experience.

"Nice motel close to a beach, park, & shopping. "
We arrived at a medical conference 4 days early & stayed here because it was less expensive. It was close to the airport (only heard planes during the day). It had a great buffet breakfast, including hot & cold foods, fruits, etc. The staff were friendly. The pool was wonderful - I was usually the only one in it & spent hours doing water aerobics. 2 hot tubs, too. Resident iguana pair were precious & harmless. The rooms had fridge and microwave & were very spacious. We were across the street from a paved park that was the center of island celebrations for their National Anthem & flag day. We had free music & musical competitions on a big stage & we were able to sample & buy "comida típica" through the weekend. We were close enough to walk on the path to the cruise ship shopping areas & found a pedestrian mall several blocks inland where there were other dancing competitions going on. The beach was across the street & it was one of the ones where the planes come in to land about 30 feet above you. There were a couple of restaurant -bars on it, too. You can walk to where there is bus service available to the north shore hotels & there is an old fashioned trolley in the ped mall area.

"Nice hotel "
Very nice hotel. Food is OUTRAGEOUSLY PRICED! We have ate at many Ruth's Chris steakhouses and this one was the worst. Our meal for two was $150, steak was flavorless and all fat. Very disappointed. The La Vista buffet for breakfast was $26/person with dinner being $50/person. We did not know but at the pool bar they charged for refills $4 for a small cup when you didn't get the full can. I just felt we could have stayed somewhere closer to the mall/strip that wouldn't have been so pricey. Simply fish was a gorgeous place to have dinner at sunset, really enjoyed it. I had the red snapper and my husband had the grouper. Wasn't really our cup of tea and was still hungry after we left bc the meal was just fish, no sides. We wanted to explore the island so decided to not eat at the restaurants but it was a bit of a walk to the mall/strip.. we walked through other resorts to get there. At times didn't feel safe on the long walk down an alley to get to the strip/mall. The staff told us to walk along the beach instead.

"Beautiful Place!!!"
We took a family trip - all adults (brother is a time share owner). We were completely impressed. Staff was friendly, if we needed anything all we had to do was ask, everything was clean & spacious. The pool was excellent and never crowded; plenty of beach area & lounge chairs (with umbrellas). Obviously if you go during typical summer months (when the rest of the US is on vacation), you may have issues. We went in late Sept/early Oct and didn't have to deal with family with small children or children/teens period. We're going back in Sept...with different people this time...We're going to love it. Can't wait I'm so excited!
