Close to main train station, but old-fashioned

Pros: Location, cleanliness, helpful staff
Cons: Paint and repair the room (overhead light, bathroom door handle).
Location: Very central. Easy access to museums and canals.
The location of the hotel is excellent for our purposes and the staff was friendly, helpful, and multilingual. However, the room was small (to be expected in this location) and a little shabby looking for the price. One overhead light was broken, and the handle to the bathroom door felt loose, like it could come off. The room and bath itself were clean and very functional. I indicated I wouldn't recommend the hotel, but in a pinch - like our usual favorites were all booked on our return date - I would probably book again. The price was high for the quality - it was a popular May weekend...

Great location. Acceptable accommodations.

Pros: Location
Cons: Wifi.
Location: Near canal boats. Near shops, near Ann Frank museum. Near Vondelpark. Near Riksmusrum. Near Van Gogh. Near some great "coffee houses."
This is not your typical American chain hotel. This is is small, older facility directly fronting on the Damrak, the Times Square of Amsterdam. It is an easy walk from the train station. You can watch every nationality and culture pass by your window. The room was clean and adequate. It is not new. The wifi did not work in the rooms. Most people crowded into the vending areas or onto the stairs to keep in contact with the rest of the world. It is proximate to the museums, to casinos, to great restaurants and to the coffee houses. Also walking distance to the red light district. The elevator was small and scary. Trying to get paid in cash, they tried the old "our credit card machine isn't working." Insist. They will ultimately get it working. The breakfast was adequate. Not fantastic, but nutritious. It's a small, old, central city hotel. Great for watching the culture of the country you are visiting. Acceptable price.
