"Great gaslamp location"
This place is close to everything...ball park, convention center, trolley and the gaslamp district. Fun. The decor is edgy, over function. A cool place to stay. But probably not for families. We were upsold to a suite at registration, sometimes a pain, but it was a great deal and we actually got a double upgrade for not a lot of cash. we were in a 'low' spot between the 4th and comicon, so they had some rooms to move us around to. I wouldn't expect this during conventions or when the padres play. Downside to being close to the trains and trolleys...they are noisy. Especially in the Front. They want a LOT for valet parking, but there is a self park lot around the corner for 1/3 the price. The pool is cool, but not a lot of sitting around space...unless you rent a lounge or cabana.

"Good place but bad timing"
Loved the Del once the sticker shock of a $30 hamburger washed down the gullet. The hotel and surrounding shops and restaurants are lovely. Our visit was poorly timed on the heels of rain, which we were told created a washout raising bacterial levels. We were able to rent an umbrella and chairs, of course, but not allowed in the ocean...for days...our entire stay! It fringed on an overbearance of authority that took away the joy of "swim at your own risk". I can swim in a pool at home. The spa is recommended! Room service was prompt and delivered the food hot. We did have to call housekeeping and wait a while for a second robe and any facecloths. Other than those inconveniences, we enjoyed our stay and WALKS along the shore.

"Classic downtown hotel! "
The Westgate is a classy, historic hotel that's in a great location in downtown. Across from Horton Plaza, it's very convenient to walk around downtown. The rooms are large, beds are comfortable and service is outstanding. I've stayed in downtown numerous times at many different hotels, at the Westgate is among the best! We had the best maid ever! When we got back to our room, she had emptied all of our travel bags (toiletries) and have them beautifully arranged on the bathroom counter and the room was immaculate! 2 rooms share a common hallway (behind a locked door) which was great because we stayed with another couple and we could have both our main room doors open if we wanted to and have a common area. Can't wait to go back and stay at The Westgate again.

"Location to Gas Lamp and Seaport Village is great"
I had stayed in La Jolla and wasn't ready to leave by my departure date, so I quickly went on line and found this great hotel in the heart of the Gas Lamp district. I'd recommend it more to the 21-50 age group who are there to have a great time without kids. It's a hotel that caters to having a great time.

"disregard outdated or malicious reviews"
I took a risk and booked this hotel despite the disparaging reviews and am so glad that i did. The hotel and room that i had (Bay view, King room) was wonderful and flawless. Absolutely NO odors, dirtiness, the room was very obviously renovated recently, the bathrooms were all new and the room looked exactly like in the hotel's pictures. The service and staff was also first rate. I have no idea how this hotel was in the past but as of 10/21/13 it is wonderful and I have to say that the location is phenomenal and the price extremely reasonable.

"Great place to relax. Beach access was exceptional."
The hotel staff were exceptional. They made the day at the beach very relaxing and easy to enjoy. The evenings outside on the patio bar were very relaxing , with the staff taking great care to provide whatever necessary. The pool side staff provided all the comforts in a timely and jovial manner. This made the stay very comfortable and I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend.

"Great get away"
My experience at the hotel could have been better. Upon checking in, the hotel was not able to find my reservation. Luckily I had all my invoices that I had printed out. After everything was figured out by the staff the only room available was on the same floor were the pool and the night club was located, luckily we were able to still sleep comfortably with out the noise coming threw the walls. The first night we parked valet (we were too tired to try to look for cheaper parking) but the hotel was trying to charge me for two nights. After showing my invoices from another over night parking that we had used, the hotel credited my card. I did enjoy that the hotel was about two blocks walking distance from all the excitement from the local bars and night clubs.

"Perfect pad for partying"
I wanted a stylish spot in Gaslamp for me (and friends if need be) to crash at for my 30th birthday. I took a gamble in reserving this hotel as I did not know which one I was getting. All I knew ahead of time was that it was in dowtown and 4 stars. When I found out the location of the hotel, my jaw dropped. Right in the middle of all of downtown San Diego's best bars and restaurants. The lobby wasn't much of a lobby, quite small but all the staff for check in were prompt and friendly. Room was clean, well kept, and hip urban modern decor. It was also stuffed with lots of goodies too, just don't eat everything! The shower was out in the open, be aware if you have privacy issues. But this hotel was all that I had hoped for. The biggest con for me was parking, at $35 a nite it is not cheap so factor that in your bill. Also, if you are sensitive to noise, be aware that you will here all the commotion from the streets below. Best for younger singles and couples, not recommended for kids and families.
