"Best Location Downtown, Historical value - Facilities can be perfect"
We stopped at HCM city, stayed at Caravlle hotel for 4 nights during the Tet festival of 2012. The surrounding city blocks are beautifully, cheerfully, and yes artfully decorated for the event. Caravelle hotel as a class by itself does not bother at all dressed up from the outside. You have to walk in the lobby to see the huge Mai tree, the Vietnamese traditional Tet plant. That's all there is for the festive mood. The lobby, the lounge may need the better eyes of tasteful interior designers. There is a lack of sophistication at the reception areas, the ground floor. Not a hint of French flair as one would have expected. First impression is found by looking through the windows towards the city opera palace, the historic Lam Son Square.
Caravelle hotel is at the best of the best locations. Everything is within 10-15 minutes casual walk, including the 100+ year-old Cathedral; Post Office; City Hall, Ben Thanh Market, numerous cafes; restaurants, shops A part from deadly street crossings, we feel safe. We waked up, joggling early to beat the heat, humid; consistently sunny 90+ F, and the crowd. It is a very pleasant experience, added by contacts with friendly, respectful, helpful locals and mindful tourists.
We stayed at the deluxe double view room on the 20th of the 23 floors new tower wing. The view is awesome, the room is a bit small but bedding, bathroom are perfect. Very clean, excellent services twice a day. Staffs are disciplined, services are prompt impeccable. We had 3 AM wonderful snacks of seafood congee, spring rolls. We also ate at the Sai Gon bar on the 7th floor. We used the nice swimming pool every day and share experience with satisfactory hosts like us.
