"Quick, last minute trip 2 see DAVID LETTERMAN SHOW"
I will start with the bad first. NO PARKING if you drive to get there.Cost us $98. something for 34 hours. Parked at 10pm Tuesday night, and out @ 8am Thursday morning. First time ever to New York City. When we was looking for hotels, and not really knowing where anything was, we read so many reviews of many hotels. Our first selling point was PRICE. We knew we did not want to go cheapo, cause we didn't want to share bathrooms. So for the price, and location, bathroom, we chose Hotel St. James. Not the prettiest looking building, they had scaffolds out front of the hotel, but that helped us find our room later on. Rooms was clean, bed felt good, and food near by.

"Not Bad"
I was concerned upon entering b/c of the construction outsude, and the room was small, but it is New York! The bed was comfortable, but could have been more decorative. The best part of breakfast was the waffles! The batter was perfect! We were able to leave our bags after checkout, return and pick them up while we waited for our airport shuttle. Not bad for a short stay.

"OK Place to stay"
You could hear the door slamming of other guests. The smoke detector went off and battery was replaced quickly. I had difficulty opening the door each night. On the third night the maintenance guy came up and he had to use his pass key to open the door. Finally, on the 4th night, they sent a maintenance guy up to the room and he worked on it for 10 minutes. Then, it worked. On the day of check out, they shut down the elevator for maintenance at 10:30 when check out is 11 a.m. They wanted us to wait around till it was fixed and we said no that we would leave our bags in the room till 1:30 when we returned. They compromised and came to our room with luggage tags. They brought our bags down for us. The breakfast was fantastic. It is a nice place to stay but for the amount of money I paid I would expect more in the way of service.
